Once Upon a Time 2x11 Thoughts

• I loved Belle using her brain and book smarts to work things out. I loved how brave and adventurous she was. At the same time she was definitely very foolhardy. She doesn’t appear to think things through to their natural consequences and leaps into dangerous situations without any planning. Facing a fierce beast with only a small dagger made me shake my head so much. That was ridiculously foolish especially for someone who doesn’t even know how to fight. Belle sneaking onto Hook’s ship, without stopping to get her werewolf friend or the Sheriff first, and then sending Archie to escape but staying behind to look for Baelfire’s shawl was also super foolish.
• Belle and Mulan meeting up and working together was excellent. I liked Mulan saving Belle from the hunters and I loved her believing in Belle.
• I loved Belle’s hunting outfit. She looked gorgeous.
• I loved Emma getting Henry Pongo. I really like that for all that she really loves Henry she’s still kind of awkward with him and isn’t sure how to be a parent to him. It rings true. Yet she still tries really hard – from inviting Regina to the party, and walking him to school and here getting him Pongo to ease his grief. It was a really considerate and lovely decision.
• I liked that Hook didn’t kidnap Belle to use her as a hostage like I was expecting.
• I was surprised that it was revealed so quickly that Regina didn’t kill Archie. We didn’t even get another confrontation between Regina and anyone else, or get to see what Regina would do while everyone still thought she had done it.
• For all that I loved Belle getting to be clever and saving the day I wish she and Mulan had worked together to defeat the Yaoguai because this is once again Mulan being shoved aside for another princess to be awesome and it annoys me. Mulan being a mentor to Belle or them as partners would have been more interesting for me. Also the reason for Mulan having to stay behind felt super contrived.
• Charming calling Snow ‘Mary Margaret’ felt so weird and wrong to me. Same with her calling him ‘David’. Wrong, wrong. Using Archie bothers me a lot less.
• I don’t really understand everyone’s big fear of strangers coming to Storybrooke. Have there seriously never been any visitors?
• “Regina didn’t do it.”
“I knew it!”
Uh, whatever kid. 10 seconds ago you were all ‘to protect us from Regina’ and planning an armory addition to the apartment. During the entire episode this was all we’d heard from Henry on Regina. He angsted about Archie’s death (understandable) but we got nothing on his feelings about her. Which was a really important exclusion and I think a misstep. When he was making the phone call a part of me was thinking/hoping he was calling Regina. I really wish we could have gotten an episode, or at least something, about Henry’s feelings with regards to Regina before they’d discovered that she was innocent.
