Once Upon a Time 2x16 Thoughts

* Wow. Snow tricking Regina into killing her mother - I did not see that coming! I guess Regina finally has a logical reason to hate Snow White!
- That Regina/Snow scene was excellent. Snow manipulated Regina brilliantly - as good as Cora ever did. I have to give her props on being so quick on her feet. I thought her choice was believable as was her immediately regret and too late attempt to stop Regina.
And I really loved that it was her choice - she wasn't tricked or manipulated or forced into doing it. Sure, Rumpel was being all manipulative in giving her the candle but she knew it and still made the choice after serious thought. It was a mistake but I kind of liked that they had Snow, of all people, make such a dark mistake.
* Rumpelstiltskin/Cora - I liked them a lot more then I was expecting. I liked Cora demanding that Rumpel teach her and I loved that in the end she outsmarted him. Unexpected and awesome. Plus the scene where he taught her to spin gold was really hot. I would have loved to have seen more of them. Just imagining everyone else's reactions to them as a couple makes me grin.
* Rumpelstiltskin taking Cora removing her own heart as a sign that she never loved him was strange to me because it seemed obvious that she did it because she loved him. She tells him "My heart was stopping me." (from taking her revenge) and that really only makes sense to me if her heart was strongly pulling her in another direction - Rumpelstiltskin. It was her choosing power over love. I really wish we'd gotten to see Cora and Rumpelstiltskin interacting post-reveal that she had loved him (and only him).
* I'm sad to see Cora go. She was a fasinating and scary villain. I'm going to miss her.
* The casting on this show continues to be amazing. Rose McGowan was excellent as young Cora.
* I really liked Rumpelstiltskin's phone call to Belle and the Rumpel/Neal exchange that followed. I loved his speech to Belle (I can't blame her for getting choked up over it; though I don't ship them anymore) and this exchange between Rumpel and Neal - "I'm still angry"/"I know." - was so well done.
But what I think I love best is the fact that I'm 98% convinced that while Rumpelstiltskin was 100% sincere in what he said to Belle and Baelfire he was also 100% manipulating them (and Emma as a bonus). He knew that there was a chance he was going to survive (especially when you factor in his ability to see the future) and he used his apparent imminent death to get back into Belle's good graces/make a good impression on her, get his son's forgiveness and as a bonus he got to be sympathetic to Emma. I love it.
* I was expecting Emma's protection spell to work a bit better than it did. One fireball and it was gone. Except then the second attempt worked for quite awhile against just Cora so... ? The magic confused me.
* Also confusing me - I figured that when they returned to Storybrooke Rumpelstiltskin would heal because isn't the only way to kill supposed to be the dagger? And otherwise he's immortal and unkillable? Is it because in the mundane/non-magic world not only does he not have magic but he was also stripped of being a magical being and was no longer The Dark One? But you'd think becoming magic again would heal him.
* See the bad thing with giving Cora so much power is that you're left going 'uh, why didn't she just magic everyone out of the shop right at the beginning instead of fighting?' Because that makes no sense.
