Iron Man 3 Review

* I enjoyed Tony dealing with PTSD and panic attacks by burying himself in work so much more than Tony dealing with dying by being a jackass and acting out.
* Pepper was awesome. I'm very happy that she is in fact still CEO of Stark Industries. I loved her getting to save Tony - twice.
* Loved Tony/Pepper. All their scenes were great. I like that she moved in with him. I really loved him voluntarily opening up to her.
* I really liked Rhodey. He had a lot more to do this time, or at least that's how it felt, and I loved all the scenes showing Rhodey and Tony's friendship. That was the only thing lacking in IM2 and this movie gave it to me in spades. I loved the exchange over Rhodey's password.
* I loved that Tony rescued Dummy from the ocean at the end.
* I loved the end credit scene with Tony and Bruce. Sciencebros for life!
* The kid was great and I loved Tony's interactions with him.
* Pepper's interactions with Maya were good especially the scene just between them at the house. (It kind of felt like an attempt to make up for the nastiness with Cristine in IM2).
* At first I wasn't sure how I felt about the bait and switch with the Mandarin but I ended up really liking it. Actually I think it was a pretty brilliant move to make him a construct that gave people a target to hate and fear in the most stereotypical form possible who also worked as a distraction from the real 'Mandarin' - Killian.
* Ben Kingsley was hilarious as Trevor. Loved him.
- I loved the scene where Rhodey first meets 'the Mandarin' and is like *rage* and then '...wtf?'.
* Killian was a for the most part a great villain.
* The opening scene between Tony and Maya was great.
* I liked Happy being so protective of Pepper, and involved in Tony being happy and not messing things up with Pepper, and I liked that he went off investigating by himself.
* I was really hoping for Rescue to show up so I was disappointed that didn't happen. Still it was great seeing Pepper in the suit even if it was only for a couple minutes. Her seeming understanding at the end about Tony's love for the suit makes me hope if there's another movie we'll get Rescue.
* I really liked that Pepper didn't know how to use the suit immediately and messed up trying to blow a hole in the wall.
* I wasn't really sold on the Tony voice over until the end credits scene - learning that it was Tony monologuing to Bruce suddenly made it not bother me anymore.
Other
* I'm still really not sure how I feel about the end - Tony blowing up all his suits and having the arc reactor removed. I understand - or at least it's my understanding - that this isn't Tony saying goodbye to Iron Man but rather him growing up and letting go of the traumas that had him clinging so tightly to his identity as Iron Man. He's still going to have a suit and be a hero but he's also going to try for a life and being happy and moving on from the past. This is good. As he said he is Iron Man. Just... I don't know. Something about it makes me a little - uncomfortable. Uncertain?
I need to think about it more. Maybe see the movie again. I like character development and I like Tony getting some more personal growth. Hmm.
* I was never worried for a second that Pepper was really dead. Even if I hadn’t seen a spoilery image – clearly set after her ‘death’ – RDJ loves Pepper and Pepper/Tony so much that I just can’t believe he’d allow it nor do I think marvel would.
* So... why doesn't Tony just build a large army of iron men and keep them in storage and then the next time there's an alien invasion he can just send JARVIS to deal with it. I do not see the bad in this (especially if he locks them so only he can use them).
Not Good
* I realise Tony throwing the arc reactor into the ocean was a symbolic gesture but it bothered me.
* The bad thing with having a shared universe and post-Avenger's individual movies is that you're left wondering where the heck everyone else is during the events of IM3. Especially after Tony's apparent death.
* It was a little annoying that there were so many JARVIS controlled suits flying around the battlefield and yet Tony still spent so much time un-suited. It didn't bother me tons while watching but why wouldn't JARVIS always have a suit near Tony?
- Also why didn't Tony direct JARVIS to Pepper when she was being dragged away by the crane?
* Tony promising Pepper that he'd catch her... then not catching her and her falling to her 'death'. Ouch. Couldn't he have been suddenly attacked, or unable to reach her in time instead?
* If it was so simple to remove the shrapnel from his chest why the heck didn't Tony have it removed before?
* The one line hand-wave of the successful removal of Extemis from Pepper at the end was a bit irritating. I mean really? This technology Tony doesn't know has taken over her body and he managed to get rid of it that easily? I'm kind of hoping he just meant he stabilised it.
* Maya's death didn't really work for me. Killian's life depended on Maya stabilising Extremis and I find it hard to believe that he would be willing to depend so completely on Tony. Also I wish we'd gotten a firmer grasp earlier, perhaps during the scene with Pepper, that Maya really didn't want to keep helping Killian.
- It would also have been nice for Maya to have done more.
* I felt like Killian, and especially the Extremis soldiers, were missing motivation for their actions.
