Once Upon a Time 2x17 & 2x18 Reviews

iaria2x17 'Welcome to Storybrooke'
• “You’re talking about killing my mom!” I still really like it whenever Henry acknowledges that Regina is his mom too.
• It was nice to see Graham and Billy/Gus again. But the whole Graham/Regina situation was so squicky.
• I thought Henry’s idea of getting rid of the magic was a good one. It wouldn’t solve all the problems but it would make things a lot less dangerous.
• Why would Regina let Owen go? Either let them both go, or keep both.
• “We can have everything." – well, no, Regina can have everything. Henry will get his mind messed with. If she thinks that’s really a viable/reasonable method of dealing why doesn’t she cast a spell to change her own mind/memories?
• I really didn’t feel sorry for Regina during the flashbacks.
2x18 'Selfless, Brave and True
• "I could have gone with her? With Emma?" – Snow. I loved this moment - the break in Snow's voice but especially Emma’s face. Oh, Emma. Brilliant acting on both their parts. I want so much more of these two and their feelings about each other because they are amazing. The royal family group hug at the end was nice but I really wish we’d get something of substance with all of them. It really feels like most of the relationship are being short changed.
• I liked Marco fessing up the truth, apologising to Snow and especially his line about ‘burdening August with a weight no child should bear’ because for all that I don't like August he was seven years old and thrust into a new world with a baby. That's definitely an apology he should have given his son.
• I liked that Snow slapped Marco and then forgave him but I really didn't like her looking at her hand after the slap as if someone else had been control of it. It had a tinge of the darkness in her heart is making her act out of character/bad when the slap was completely in character and an understandable reaction.
• I am not a fan of August and this episode did nothing to change my mind. I mean he only even went to Storybrooke to save himself not to help Emma or say, his dad. And that's on top of stealing a cure from a dying woman.
Considering all his bad choices in life and his self-disgust perhaps starting over is a choice he'd have welcomed? Little Pinnochio gets a chance to redo his life and while August is effectively dead he would have been dead anyway.
Also it's interesting that this is exactly what Rumpelstiltskin was planning to do with Neal.
• I quite like most of what we learned about Tamara - her search for magic, her conning August and Neal, the fact that she has no problem killing to get what she wants (though she did try non-violence with August first). It all adds up to the potential to be really interesting.
But I do not like the end reveal that she's working with Owen. Mainly because I'm finding it hard to suspend my disbelief over the two of them meeting and ending up together. Possibly a flashback will explain it in a way that works for me but right now - meh.
• I'm very curious about who Tamara is. She's not from the Enchanted Forest (or connecting lands) but I don't buy that she's from 'our' world either. I'm at a loss though as to what world she could be from. She knows about magic and she has a taser that is a lot more than a taser (how the heck does it even kill a man made of wood?).
• I really liked Snow out in the forest shooting arrows and listening to music as her method of brooding/angsting. So much better than cuddling in her bed. I also really liked that her upset over what happened wasn't killing Cora per say but that she did it by manipulating Regina into killing her mother.
• When Tamara hit August with the taser I was expecting him to go up in flames. I guess that would be a bit too violent for this show.
• Tamara killed the Dragon far too easily.
• Okay, seriously Tamara got drenched in that coffee! That was not something that could be covered with a scarf! She could not wear that shirt to work. It's a stupid little detail but it bothers me.
