Brave New World

I really enjoyed this episode. I think a large part of it was that it just felt more like a season 1 or 2 episode. Nikita and Birkoff running a secret mission, Michael and Alex going in to save her, an actual Division kill mission, Ryan's rather Percy-like manipulative politicing. I loved it.

• I loved Ryan going WWPD aka 'What Would Percy Do'. Ryan enjoyed being in control of the situation and he was good at it. His conversation with Danforth was fabulous. He engineered a kill mission to protect his people - awesome. This is the most interesting he's been in awhile. I am really excited and super interested to see where this storyline is going. (Probably 'power corrupts regardless of intention' but I trust TPTB to make it interesting.)

• Up until this point both the show and Nikita have been mainly focused on how the amputation affected Michael so I loved getting to see Nikita's side and how it's been affecting her. Because of course it would - she had to cut off her lover's hand to save his life and he reacted by pulling away from her.

• I loved Michael and Alex on a mission together to save Nikita - the whole thing felt very old school Nikita. Them, everyone, simply hunting the missing Division agents just isn't the same.

• I loved that it was Alex who did the kill-and-cover-up part of the mission (with her usual competence) while Michael went to save Nikita. Also that Nikita had semi-saved herself by that point (well, freed herself at least).

• Where the hell did Alex go at the end? It seemed so bizarre to me that she wouldn't accompany Nikita and Michael.

• A couple episodes ago we had Nikita wondering if she was too obsessed with catching/killing Nikita and now it looks like Michael might be heading down his own obsessive road. Certainly Nikita looked worried.

• I loved Alex casually pulling up Birkoff's hidden windows while he argued with Michael. Small moment but really nice.

"Keep your shirt on double-o-hottie." - Birkoff to Nikita. Hee. I've missed his flirtiness/admiration of Nikita. Their scenes as a whole were actually really nice.

• I really enjoyed the Heidecker/Nikita scenes. I like how Nikita came into their first meeting full of disdain for him but still found herself confiding in him and even liking him a little, before returning to disgust. He was a complicated character - horrible but human. I liked that.

• I liked Michael catching the knife with his hand. I was kind of hoping it would make him see that there are some good points to having a metal hand.

"He even made a joke this morning. - Nikita/ "Was it funny?" - Birkoff Heh.

• No red-shirt agents we harmed in this episode! I wonder if they have a little number counter a la '5 Missions with no loss of agents' sort of deal. Nah, probably depressing.
