Nikita 3x16 Thoughts

• Alex as the leader of the mutiny is a very surprising twist and I like it. She shot Ryan! But at the same time I'd like it even more if they'd played it out differently. Because they made it pretty obvious during the Alex/Ryan confrontation that Alex is in the middle of a breakdown, not thinking logically and likely compromised by Amanda which I think is really too bad because she isn't wrong in what she believes.
Nikita et al are moving away from their original goal where they agreed to keep Division going only to find the rogue agents and then shut it down. Nikita does want to protect the agents but I think Alex is right that shutting Division down and setting the agents free isn't necessarily Nikita's main goal right now. It keeps getting lost among everything that keeps happening. The Division agents need a voice and a champion for them and it makes sense for that to be Alex.
I think it would be far more interesting if Alex just had a completely different idea of what they should be doing and acting on that without her being compromised. She's behaving impetuously but that's a trait of Alex's already, she's young. The mutiny is definitely not the way to approach the situation but I think the show could have made it work without forcing Alex to be breaking down inside. Both sides have good points.
The way they have played it here feels a little too easy. Like, now Alex has an out because she wasn't in her right mind. This is especially relevant with the shooting of Ryan because I think Nikita could shrug off the mutiny but shooting/killing Ryan? That is serious. That's hurting someone she loves which is unforgivable to Nikita. Except now Alex has been compromised by Amanda so it's not really her fault. It - lessens the conflict.
Also it almost feels like giving Nikita and her inner circle an out as well because Alex is being positioned as 'wrong', in methods if not beliefs, which makes them 'right' and I think it'd be more interesting if neither was right or wrong.
• I think once again if anyone is going to figure out that something is happening with Alex it will be Michael. The look on his face during Alex's little rant about what 'Rachel' said showed that he got that Alex was also speaking for herself (or at least was suspicious). It makes me a little sad actually because it shows just how distant Alex and Nikita have gotten. Sure, Nikita was distracted for an understandable reason but still.
There has been such a lack of communication and interaction between Nikita and Alex this season. I miss when Alex was a main priority for Nikita, when she saw when Alex was having issues and the women talked. There's this division* between them that neither seem to be putting much effort into bridging. I miss them fighting for each other. I miss them.
They've always been the heart of the show but this season you wouldn't necessarily know that.
* lol, pun not intended but actually I think the division between them starts and ends with Division.
• I loved finally getting to see more of the Division agents and some of their feelings on what's happening. Their disgruntlement - with the side-missions, and the red shirt agents being killed on missions, the inner circle meetings and secrets and lack of movement towards being set free - makes so much sense and I love getting to see it.
Alas the show continues with killing off interesting guest stars. I wish that Jason hadn't been killed off because I liked what we saw of him and his relationship with Michael. Plus if we're getting to see more of the agents that are mutinying it'd be nice to see more of those that are loyal. What are their feelings and why are they staying loyal?
Are there different camps? Like those loyal to Nikita, those to Michael (Jason), those to Alex (Rachel), those to Birkoff or Ryan. See I find this fascinating. More so than The Shop and I wish the show would focus more on the various divisions in Division and how they work, coexist and what they want.
• I wish we could have gotten more of Michael's reaction to Jason's death. Jason basically died so Michael could have a new hand - was it really worth it? Jason was clearly loyal to Michael, hero-worshiped him according to other agents and they got along really well. I hope there's some emotional follow-through from this.
• I hope the show will address more how many Division agents have been killed this season - to the point that they're basically red shirts - and how that effects the still living agents. It'd be nice to see Nikita and the inner circle having to deal with it too.
• I liked Rachel a lot and I'm glad that she's still around. I loved the little Rachel/Nikita scene and Rachel's dig at Nikita. I found her loyalty to Alex surprising but I liked it. I hope that now that the audience has learned the truth we'll get to see Alex with the agents on her side.
• I really liked Nikita and Michael's first mission at the office building. They were pretty adorable in the elevator.
• I'm disappointed that they gave Michael back his hand. Nikita cutting it off was a big moment and I don't things like that should be taken back. There were consequences to get his hand back - Jason's death, how it increased mutinous feelings - but we'll see if that goes anywhere. I'm hoping it's not actually permanent. It'd be nice/interesting if in a future episode Michael is given a choice between his hand and say, working for The Shop, and chooses to give up his hand. Or he chooses to lose his new hand to save a/some Division agents.
• I've been thinking about Amanda brainwashing/manipulating Alex. Clearly she's using it to destabilise Division but I think that's more of a pleasant side effect to her real goal - to destabilise Nikita. Forcing Nikita to deal with betrayal from someone so close to her. I wonder if perhaps Amanda is hoping to force a situation where Nikita will have to kill Alex?
