4x11 'Catch Me If You Can'
• Killing Kol, and thus his entire line, is a horrible idea! Jeremy was just saying that he didn't want to kill any more innocent people so him killing thousands of vampires many of whom are possibly 'good' (for values of good considering they're vampires) is not actually an improvement over killing individual vampires. It's so much worse. How about instead of letting Klaus kill people Jeremy goes on a roadtrip with Damon to find and kill 'evil' vampires?
• That said I love ruthless Elena so in that way her deciding to kill an Original as the solution to their problems worked for me. I love when Elena does her own thing, makes her own plans. I love every time she shows she's a Petrova.
- I also loved her saving Matt. Though it did stick out to me that she only broke the vampire's neck instead of killing him (while Damon rips out his vampire's heart.)
• I loved Damon figuring out that Kol compelled him and him yelling out instructions to Jeremy. I also loved his criticizing and bitching about Jeremy's choices during the cat and mouse game.
• I find the Damon/Jeremy relationship interesting and this was a good episode for them. Not only did Damon tell Jeremy to kill him and gave him several opportunities to do so but when given those opportunities Jeremy chose to disable Damon instead of killing him. I felt like this episode showed that Jeremy is, or is certainly on the way, to being one of Damon's people. One of those few people that he actually cares about.
• I really enjoyed Stefan this ep. I loved his "You're welcome" to Elena after snapping Damon's neck.
• "Don't Ripper out on me." - Rebekah. What is with the characters using 'Ripper' to describe Stefan's behaviour when it is so far from Ripper-like behaviour? Binge drinking and petulantly kicking a filing cabinet are not Ripper behaviours. Ripping people apart is Ripper behaviour. It's twice in two episodes now and while Caroline could maybe be excused for her use (not really) Rebekah certainly can't considering that she was in love with Ripper!Stefan. This is annoying.
4x12 'A View to Kill'
• Kol's death and the big showdown of the episode ended up really not working for me for the simple fact that Kol is a thousands year old vampire and Elena's like a month old. Even with the handycap of not wanting to kill her (presumably because he doesn't want to piss Klaus off that much) it is just not believable to me that Elena and Jeremy could fight back so well. The biggest, most glaring moment was in the kitchen when Elena stabbed him with the cleaver and then actually held him against the counter for like 10 seconds while he struggled. WTF? He's an Original! One push of his hand should have had her flying across the room. The vervain water hurt, sure, but to the point that he was so incapacitated that he'd let Jeremy stab him? Sorry, I don't buy it.
• That said despite the end hitting my suspension of disbelief Elena was awesome. From co-coordinating everything (loved her writing instructions on the chalkboard) to her fight with Kol, and especially her pulling herself off the stair dowel, I felt like she was very... on this ep which was nice. Also one of her plans has finally worked! So yay there.
- Elena and Jeremy fighting together to take out a more powerful vampire also worked for me so much.
• I also really liked Bonnie and how her storyline is playing out. Her disabling Kol at the school and then trapping Klaus at the end was great. I liked her interactions with her parents and loved the bit about finding the cure for Abby because I hadn't actually thought about Bonnie wanting to find the cure for herself. I loved this line - "I don't belong to the spirits anymore, I belong to myself."
- I really liked the little moment when Jeremy lost it with Abby and Bonnie had to talk him down from killing her. It's been a busy couple episodes - I wonder if the show is still going in a Bonnie/Jeremy direction?
• I get that both Abby and Rudy love their daughter and they want to try and protect her, plus they're not necessarily wrong, but at the same time it's a little too late, you know? They're horrible parents! They both basically abandoned her! They can't just show back up and try and take control of her and her life again. It doesn't work that way. Sure, Bonnie and Abby seemed to have worked out a lot of their issues but, uh - "My daughter is through helping Elena Gilbert." - yeah, that's not going to fly. And Rudy hasn't even tried talking with her but has instead come out of the gate trying to control her. Also - drugging Bonnie was probably not the right choice here. I really, really want a scene with Bonnie going off on the two of them, and not in a magical way, but where she can confront them on their abandonment of her.
• One thing Rudy does have going for him: vervain in the water. Awesome idea that probably should have been instituted a long, long time ago.
• I liked the Elena/Damon/Stefan scene - from Damon spilling the beans about Rebekah to Stefan's look at Elena to see her reaction and then snarkiness at Damon and Damon punching Stefan... I just want these three back together again. Is that too much to ask?
- Also Stefan's little look at Elena: he looked exasperated by Damon revealing the truth, then took a quick peek to see Elena's reaction. Elena, imo, looked shocked but also hurt and in turn I thought Stefan looked a bit pleased at her reaction before turning his snarkiness to Damon. So not so much over Elena.
• I really liked the Stefan/Rebekah scenes. I loved the scene in the hall - Rebekah choosing to both trust Stefan with the dagger and opening up to him and Stefan responding by actually living up to that trust and not continuing with the plan. I was actually rather ticked at him for once again playing Rebekah so I loved how things ended up actually going. I also liked the Lexie reminiscing, the koala corsage and Stefan trying to teach Rebekah the breakfast club slide.
• I loved Elena giving Jeremy/Matt crap for not doing the dishes, and leaving the weapons laying around. It was a very light moment, and recalled earlier seasons and old Elena and was just very everyday domestic. I miss those moments.
• I really liked that Stefan was sincerely worried about Bonnie after learning that Kol attacked her.
• I wonder how differently things would have played out if Kol hadn't been invited into the Gilbert house? When Jeremy opened his big mouth was Elena's reaction exasperation at him for ruining part of his plan (her being a vampire = not being able to invite Kol in) or annoyance with herself at not remembering she couldn't invite Kol in (and she had been planning to?)
• Killing Kol, and thus his entire line, is a horrible idea!
