Haven 4x01 & 4x02 Thoughts

• The Nathan/Duke reunion was wonderful. I was with Duke in being a little worried about how Nathan would react and then there was the hug and the big grin and working together again. I loved it.
• I really liked that Nathan's grief wasn't just about losing Audrey but also thinking that Duke and James had died as well. Nathan's reaction to seeing Duke again and his grief over Duke helped with the bad taste still left by season 3.
• I also liked that Nathan's downward spiral/current bad situation wasn't just because he gave up after the barn disappeared but that he was on the run from The Guard.
• Nathan's certainty that he was Audrey's 'true love' as much as she's his seems a little short sighted. Also it was a bit self-absorbed to answer like that giving no thought to the fact that Duke is in love with her as well (which Nathan knows).
• "She and Nathan used to have a thing, but then he dumped her and I shot her, and the whole thing got weird." - Duke. lol, just how he said it said matter-of-fact.
• I like Jennifer so far.
• So we're starting the season with Nathan helping a Troubled, Audrey helping none. It still bugs me that there is this big deal made about Audrey being special and her helping the Troubled (and it's talked about as if she is the only one who can) and yet we've been seeing less and less of it as the seasons pass.
That said it actually didn't bother me as much as the times last season. I loved Nathan's "I learned from the best." which made me aww. Plus Nathan was often there with Audrey and in this specific case he watched Audrey help Marion so he had a template to work with.
Maybe that's going to be the solution, or part of it, to ending the Troubles? To make it so that Haven doesn't need just one special person to help the Troubled because all they need are people who care and want to help them. Perhaps that's always how it's been. Anyone can do Audrey's job if they care?
• I was really expecting Lexie to hold her own against the gunman when he pulled the gun on her but instead she had to be saved which - didn't work for me? I feel like all her other personas would have held their own better.
• Right now it seems to me that Lexie will fall for William and he'll be the one she'll kill but I'm hoping I'm wrong simply because it seems too obvious. Still better than Lexie falling for Duke though.
• Both true and funny:
"Marion didn't want to hurt anyone." - Nathan
"Yeah, well, they never do. Eh, some of them do." - Duke
• Jordan... eh. Her reaction to Nathan was really extreme. Not loving the direction the show went with her thus far.
• I like Dwight as the police chief. I also liked how happy that one cop was to have Nathan back.
4x02 'Survivors'
• Second episode now where not only do we have Nathan helping a Troubled by talking them down but doing so by relating his loss of Audrey to their situation. I'm not sure if that annoys me or not. I feel like they're really hammering Nathan's love/guilt/grief feelings towards Audrey and it's beginning to feel heavy-handed and annoying but at the same time Nathan succeeding at Audrey's job by using her in a way to do it makes it less annoying?
• Nathan helping the Troubled this ep did not work as well as 4x01. It felt way too easy and it ended up not making sense. Don lost control of his Trouble when he felt guilt - and he ended up feeling a hell of a lot of guilt during his talk with Nathan and yet the Nathan only ended up smoldering. I didn't like the resolution at all.
• I loved Lexie assembling the gun and saving William. I also liked her demanding answers at the end. She definitely felt more in line with her previous selves this episode.
• Part of me is wondering now if William and the other two are actually working together and it was all a scheme to try and get Lexie to remember.
• Here's the problem I'm having right now with this whole Lexie remembering who she is situation - who is she? Because she both is and isn't Audrey. It's just one in a line of personalities and while all are real none of the ones we've seen are the original. So when William is talking about who Lexie 'really is' I'm actually hoping that he's not talking about Audrey, even though I love her and want her back, and if the show does go there I'll be very disappointed. I guess I'm just borrowing trouble here and should just wait and see what they do before complaining.
• Nathan/Duke continue to be great. I loved Nathan thanking Duke for having his back. I loved that Duke had Nathan's back to the point of pulling a gun and this: "She's wrong. You've been helping people around here long before blondie came to town." Because Duke looks out for Nathan in all ways. Also the sledding story about was lovely.
• "Are you, like, an auxiliary police officer up here?" - Jennifer. LOL. I'd say that he should just give in and join the force but I don't think he'd care that much about non-Troubled crime so maybe not.
• I'm liking both the Duke/Jennifer and Nathan/Jennifer relationships thus far.
• I really didn't like however the Duke/Nathan conversation outside the cafe. "I don't want her involved in this." - uh, that's not your decision, Duke? After the awesomeness of him supporting Audrey last season him deciding to make decisions for Jennifer here was a real letdown. It basically come down to Duke and Nathan making the decision for her and that really annoyed me.
• Jordan - I got the sense this episode that her rage is a little more about her thinking Nathan had sentenced her to living her entire life with her Trouble. The whole betrayal situation is still there and affecting her but I really don't want that to be her motivating factor and thus far this season the show hasn't done awesome in clearing up her motivation. I really liked her scene with Dwight and it did help with that.
