The Vampire Dairies 4x17 Review

• I loved the Elena/Rebekah scenes. I am really excited about them going on a road trip to find the cure together. It probably won't be as fun as I'm imagining but I'm holding out hope because they were pretty delightful this episode.
"I know he's after the cure. I'm not stupid." - Elena"
"Well, let's not say things we don't mean." - Rebekah
LOL. I loved Elena's smile. Actually I loved how smiley they were together throughout the episode. Like when Damon offered Elena his hand to dance and the two of them looked at each other and grinned. And their smiles after Rebekah knocked out Damon. And how much fun they were having at the end. Love them.
• I loved Elena's little shrug when Rebekah walked away from her.
• Oh, Caroline. Horrible consequences but I understand why she did it and it is in no way analogous to most of Klaus's actions. She saw one of her best friends about to be murdered and acted to save her without thought. That's great! Except not so much since it killed 12 people. When Klaus sniped at her about it she snaps out "Yeah, but that one is my best friend." ...and that kind of is the morality of this show, isn't it? Our heroes protect their own and sometimes that's at the expense of others, sometimes that involves doing horrible things and being terrible people. I kind of love that.
But poor Caroline. I hope she gets someone to comfort her soon. Bonnie, Stefan, Matt, Liz - I don't care. She just really needs a hug.
• "My brother knows what he's doing." - Stefan. Wow. That was unexpected. This was a good episode for the brothers. There's this line, the two of them working together and then the fact that 1977 Stefan cared enough to send his BFF to help Damon. It's nice.
• Human, vampire-werewolves, witches, hmm. It makes more sense to me that originally the spell was 'vampires, werewolves, witches', since it's dealing with supernatural purgatory, but the existence of the hybrids allowed Silas to use easier to kill humans for one of the sacrifices.
• The mechanics of vampires feeding on people really bugged me this episode. Damon feeds on the two people in 1977 for seconds and they both die. Elena, Damon and Rebekah all feed off the blonde woman at the club for a minute and she walks away? How the hell wasn't she dead from blood loss?
• I was really glad that the Lexie/Damon thing was him playing her. I am curious about how she survived. Did Stefan save her?
• Why would Stefan take Bonnie home instead of Caroline? Or why wouldn't Caroline go with them instead of hanging out in the woods with Klaus? She didn't appear to be working.
