I really enjoyed it.
• So Elena is my favourite character and I almost always love her... and this episode wasn't really any different. I found her hilarious in pretty much all her interactions with the Salvatores. Her attitude towards them mostly really amused me. I even enjoyed her bitchiness with Caroline. The stealing of the prom dress was so childish and she was clearly trying to force a reaction. Those issues still simmering between them - we had better get a great scene between them after Elena turns on her humanity.
Really the only thing I really didn't like was her lashing out at Bonnie and Matt at the dance and attacking April but, eh, humanity switch. Also disappointed with Rebekah/Elena not really becoming friends.
"Hey Bonnie, heard you got your mind wiped. That sucks." - Elena LOL. Just the way she said it was hilarious. Like - Elena knows she should care and offer comfort but she doesn't actually care so instead she throws out this.
What I'm actually finding really interesting is that most of Elena's actual ire/pettiness is directed towards Caroline not Bonnie. Elena barely pays attention to Bonnie in the dress scene, lashes out at the party only when Bonnie gets in her face trying to make her remember and when she decides to kill Bonnie it has nothing to do with Bonnie but is instead all about protecting herself.
Meanwhile she keeps poking at Caroline over and over. I think this says a lot about what Elena was feeling before she flipped her switch. Not that she cares about either of the girls less but that she was holding onto a lot more anger towards Caroline than Bonnie. Which makes sense? I feel like Caroline was a lot more judgey about Elena's choices post-vamping as well as working with the Salvatore's more often to control her. I really hope this is going somewhere.
- I loved Elena's flat "no" when Damon asked if her could put the corsage on her. Other lines I loved: "You’re overage and honestly it’s kind of creepy." to Damon and "Let me go or I'll bite you." to Stefan.
• I wasn't worried at all about Bonnie when Elena decided to kill her because when it comes down to it Expression powered Bennett witch trumps baby vampire.
• Bonnie’s dream – was it Bonnie’s subconscious in Jeremy’s form warning her of danger, Silas showing a new ability or was it actually Jeremy? Despite Silas’s powerful abilities to mess with people’s minds and perceptions we haven’t seen him infiltrate people’s dreams yet. I’m leaning towards dream!Jeremy being actual Jeremy. If it was Jeremy did Bonnie pull him to her or was she unconsciously using her power and it allowed Jeremy to enter her dreams from the other side? Either way a) he saved her from beyond the grave which I love and the fact that he knew she was in danger hints that he's been hanging around like Alaric watching everyone, and b) it means he could potentially show up again. I hope so because it was really nice to see him.
• Sigh. I’ve wanted a Rebekah/Elena friendship for so long and now that they’re hanging out and even living together and we get an Elena with her humanity turned off which means no real friendship. Sad.
• Bonnie beating Caroline as prom queen really surprised me. I mean this is Caroline. Prom Queen is probably what she's been working up to all along. We know she put prom and the after party together, the party a handful of episodes ago, is head cheerleader, and so clearly she's still going to school and being her perfectionist self, running everything. She seems the obvious choice. But then she didn't even care enough to stay that long.
- That said Bonnie and Matt were lovely. I'm really glad they both got to have a really nice moment especially Bonnie because she really deserves it right now.
• I loved Elena going to prom with her boyfriends even if it wasn't really by choice. I love every time the show has her with Damon and Stefan on either arm.
• I liked both the Stefan/Elena and Stefan/Caroline dances. They kind of ship-teased both ships but for the first time I actually really think that Caroline/Stefan is going to happen.
• I liked Klaus laughing when Caroline came stomping in all furious because Elena stole her prom dress. And then getting Caroline a new dress anyway.
• I think I really am over Tyler/Caroline because my main reaction to him returning was 'are you an idiot!' I suppose it is sweet because he knows just how important this night meant to Caroline but at the same time - so stupid. Klaus can't get in the house? Well, what if he'd caught Tyler arriving, or leaving (as he did). It was such a risk.
• "It is such a hollow little life that you lead Niklaus." - Elijah. The gentle face touch just rubs it in. I loved this scene and how it shows so much about these two characters.
• I was kind of hoping we'd get Stefan and Damon sitting outside Elena's cell to match the time Damon and Elena sat outside when Stefan was in the cell.
