Doctor Who 7x05 Thoughts

I loved it!
• Overall it felt like a good end for Amy and Rory so I was pleased about that. I liked his certainty that he would survive the fall and her climbing up there with him. I also liked that when he was sent back in time permanently that Amy immediately decided to go back as well.
• I really liked how the Angels were dealt with here. I've always preferred the Blink version of them and this was a return to that (while also keeping part of the later versions of them - specifically the malevolent side of them.)
• I loved the Doctor kissing River's hand after he healed her wrist and then later River mirroring it by kissing Amy's hand when she said goodbye.
• I loved the River/Amy goodbye which was very understated but I think fit. As I said above I loved the hand kiss, I liked Amy reaching out for her hand and I liked that Amy called her Melody. (Was that the first time since River was a baby?) There was a nice symmetry there.
• I liked the Doctor, Amy and Rory just hanging out and having a picnic. The bickering was fun and loved Rory trying to run away to get coffee.
• I loved noir detective!River.
• I loved Amy figuring out that they could check the chapter titles for clues.
• I liked the Doctor checking how he looked before heading out to see River.
• I loved most of the Doctor/River stuff. I do so enjoy their back-and-forth. I love that his first words to her were to apologise for being late. I loved the little cheek kiss. And him gently taking her wrist and using his regeneration energy to heal it. And the fact that this time he sent her a message. I just really love how much they enjoy each other.
- I liked the little pause the Doctor had when River said she was a professor now.
• I loved that the Doctor was attracted to the book based on the cover (which was River) and was all yowzah about the person it was about ('fancy her' as Rory says) - and then as soon as he realised it was River he started arguing with it. LOL.
• I liked the whole situation with the book and reading it causing fixed points in time. I'm just surprised that in an episode with a book telling their future that they should not read we didn't once get River saying "spoilers".
• I liked River's little moment in the TARDIS, dealing with the loss of her parents. And the Doctor apologising to her for being so wrapped up in his own feelings over it.
*
• I don't really understand why the Doctor can't see Amy and Rory again. Yes, them being sent into the past is a fixed point in time but why can't he just go into the past and visit them there? Even if the TARDIS still can't travel in New York in that general time frame we know that vortex manipulators do work. Or why couldn't Rory and Amy just move back to London and have the Doctor pick them up there? Or he could land the TARDIS in Chicago or somewhere and drive over to New York? It doesn't affect the entire world for that period of time, right?
Also: the tombstone. There were no dates on it. So it doesn't really tell us much more than that Rory and Amy stayed married and lived into their eighties. That tombstone being right there doesn't mean anything other then someone at some point put it there. It doesn't even have to mean the Pond's are buried there.
I like to think that for his birthday that year River straps on her vortex manipulator and surprises the Doctor with a visit to her parents. [And then the four of them head off to London where River has parked the TARDIS and they return to their London, and their normal lives and the Doctor pops in to visit as per normal.]
• The timey-wimey stuff is also making my head ache with regards to River and the whole jail situation. The Doctor erased the knowledge of him from the all time and space, so River was wrongly jailed and thus released... so how does that affect episodes like the season 5 Angel two-parter?
• The Doctor and River really are married than. Does that mean the 'marriage' in 6x13 was real? It felt unfinished. Plus I thought the whole name thing was supposed to come out then but that's no what he ended up telling her. So did they end up getting married for real later on? Or was that the real marriage and his name comes into play later?
• So I guess from the whole 'lines on Amy's face' discussion even more time has passed since for the three of them since the previous episode. One thing I really love is how much space there is in between episodes for so many adventures to fill.
*
• I was not a fan of River's whole "never let him see the pain". That is not a good way to approach a marriage/relationship!
• I don't understand why River didn't travel with the Doctor at the end; even if for just a little while to get him over the immediate loss of Amy. I mean I guess she could have travelled with him a bit but it seemed like she was saying goodbye right then and that doesn't make sense to me. And her reason for why she won't travel with him all the time: "one psychopath per TARDIS, don't you think?" ... what the hell kind of reason is that?! I need a better reason, show.
• Poor, poor Brian. So we get introduced to him and get to see how much he loves his son and Amy, and have him encourage them to keep travelling with the Doctor - and now he'll never see them again. Actually this season was all about emphasising that Amy and Rory have an everyday life in London - family, friends and jobs. I wonder if we're ever going to get any follow up on that?
