• I really love what this episode did with the women and specifically what it did with their relationships with each other. We had two female/female rival/adversary type relationships focused on this episode which is great in itself. But as this show consistently does while one side started as ‘bad’ over the course of the episode our main characters get to see them as something more than adversaries and to see them as people.

Seon Joo/Ji Hee have had a very contentious relationship from the very beginning and for most of it Ji Hee hasn’t be portrayed in the best light. She’s appeared to be someone who is shallow and childish, and who wants to steal Seon Joo’s job. Seon Joo hasn’t been great either but I didn’t find her unreasonably harsh when she told Ji Hee that she was in this job for the wrong reasons if she was only looking to be in the spotlight. In fact that was just very much classic Seon Joo – it’s how she gives advice – as she did when she told Ji Hee to read her script beforehand (though in that case she could have told Ji Hee about the size difference). I really loved their final scene where Ji Hee is given depth by confessing that Seon Joo is her role model and she wanted to be her and Seon Joo in turn giving her some good advice. I actually really hope that Ji Hee does stick around despite Ms. Kang saying she would be leaving, because now that Seon Joo and Ji Hee have hit this stage in their relationship I would love to see Seon Joo become a mentor to her.

Then we have Dal Ja/Ms. Kang Take 12 or whatever it is. Ms. Kang is her usual cold self and Dal Ja is her usual impulsive self (and once again gets caught saying mean things about her behind her back). In their last scene Dal Ja finds herself once again having to apologise after she learns that she only got her old job back when Ms. Kang asked for it and agreed to give Ji Hee a job in return. It was pretty much a double hit to Dal Ja’s disappointment/self-righteousness. Ms. Kang knows it pretty much immediately and her reply is to tell Dal Ja that “making fun of you is fun for me” and that is the only reason why she spoke up for her. Judging by Dal Ja’s smile and response she believes that just as much as I do. I certainly believe that Ms. Kang does find Dal Ja amusing but I think Dal Ja has impressed her as well. I wonder if she really is, in her own way, taking Dal Ja under her wing and mentoring her? It was interesting to hear Dal Ja say “I respect you as a serious, responsible person”. I’m really enjoying their interactions and I can’t wait to see where they go from here.

• This was a great Dal Ja/Tae Bong episode as well. I liked him standing up for himself in the hospital though his eventual giving in was predictable. I guess the hospital scene was their second fight then. I loved the bus scene. I liked him opening up to her about why he left being a lawyer and his relationship with Hee Yeon but more importantly opening up to her about a very shameful and difficult piece of his history. And I liked that in turn Dal Ja opened up to him about her confusion and fear about her feelings about him. I loved this:

“You’re pretty when you smile and laugh a lot. You’re pretty whenever you frown so easily. You’re pretty when you get embarrassed and when you get shy. At times, you’re pretty when you’re naive. At other times, you’re pretty when you act like a lady. The way you are now you’re already pretty enough.”

I liked him telling her that he would wait for her and wouldn’t pressure her (but that he hoped she wouldn’t take too long and wouldn’t go out with Ki Joong too much). I also liked the end with Dal Ja giving him a key and him pulling her into a hug in return. When Tae Bong asks about Dal Ja going to the hospital she lies about it and his response is to smile fondly and say “You’re so pretty I can’t stand it.” I just find that really adorable.

• I love that Dal Ja went to the hospital with a gift basket and made friends with Hee Yeon. That was a really nice scene and I loved that the show didn’t go the rivalry route I was expecting.

• I kind of do agree with Ki Joong that as long as they fall in love in the end why and how a couple started doesn’t really matter as much but I was surprised that he took being her ‘insurance/safety choice’ confession so easily.

• I loved the pink panther theme as Dal Ja stalked Tae Bong. Hee.

• That Dal Ja admires Seon Joo so much makes me squee a little.

• Seon Joo and Sae Do’s hug caused me to have the same expression Dal Ja had when she saw them.

• I doubted Tae Bong actually killed someone but I think he has even less responsibility then I was expecting. Yes, he was a complete privileged ass to them (eating the sandwich was obnoxious to the extreme) and when they killed themselves he felt so guilty he became determined to become a better person but I really don’t think he should take all that blame on his shoulders. They made that choice – they could have gone to someone else for help, they could have sold their factory and moved on but they chose to kill themselves and leave their injured daughter behind. Even if he hadn’t been dismissive it doesn’t seem conclusive that he would have been able to help them keep their factory anyway. In the end they made that choice themselves.

• Something I find interesting here is that Tae Bong was,/i> the usual ‘jerk with a heart of gold’ hero that most of these type of dramas seem to have. It’s something that I actually love about him and this show so much – that he’s far more the kind and sweet type of guy who usually becomes the heroine’s friend and is regulated into being the secondary guy. It appears he was at one time the type of hero we usually see but he’s already gone through his life changing experience to become a better person – and for once it wasn’t because of the love of the heroine or falling in love with her.

• So is Soon Ae’s husband cheating on her with a younger woman than?

• Dal Ja is seriously never going to be rid of Mrs. Eom is she? Judging by the voice over “At this moment I meet the two most problematic women of my life” it appears not. You know, I bet this isn’t even about Ki Joong anymore she just loves tormenting Dal Ja. Now her I’d believe “making fun of you is fun for me”. At the same time I find that her crazy is starting to grow on me. I found her amusing at the end with her big smile and little wave and ‘happy to see you’.

• Ki Joong continues to amuse me – this time by reading books and manhwa to learn about women and then calling up Secretary Han all upset about how one of the manhwa played out. Oh, Ki Joong, you’re kind of adorable too.
