Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 1x14 Thoughts

I was actually really irritated by this episode. The series had been getting better, imo, but this episode was one of the worst.
+ So The Guest House is not officially a SHIELD base - and yet Fury uses it and in fact seems likely to be in charge. At the very least whoever runs it is allied with SHIELD. I think it's most likely an unofficial SHIELD base.
Upon discovering it's existence and location Coulson doesn't once try to get into contact with Fury. He just has the team head there.
They then break into the base and when met with resistance kill the two guards. These guards they killed aren't 'bad guys'. They are potentially SHIELD agents or allies of SHIELD. They're just doing their job by protecting the secret base from armed intruders. So what we're supposed to be on Coulson et al.'s side in this? Because I'm really not.
Now sure you can say our team was being fired at. They were shot at first and returned fire only after trying to talk the guards around. That's true. And Coulson was even going to get the second guard medical help. But you know what? You don't get to break in somewhere, kill the guards defending it and then cry self-defense. Geez. Why didn't they bring in those stun weapons instead?
The whole thing just ended up making me dislike our main characters which I don't think was probably the show's intent.
+ Then there's the fact that the base ends up inadvertently destroyed. Sure, they didn't plan on it but the fact is because they broke in it was destroyed. Along with everything in it including the experimental miracle drug GH-325 (that can bring people back from the dead!) and the source of it. Plus who know how much other potentially world changing technology. All gone.
+ The fact that I feel like this is all going to be waved away in the next episode aggravates me even more. What should happen is probably them being arrested; what will happen is a lecture at most and them continuing on their doing what they're doing.
+ Then there's the fact that when Garrett was gloating at Quinn about how The Clairvoyant failed all I could think was 'uh, how?' Let's see - they wanted to know how Coulson was saved and now that information is out there, in that Coulson knows, and thus presumably The Clairvoyant can figure it out. Plus he got them to destroy The Guest House, which bonus! Or possibly something he also wanted to happen. I am not seeing how The Clairvoyant loses here.
+ Also I didn't like that Fitz figured out where the secret base was so easily.
