I'm enjoying it. It's far darker than I was expecting but I actually like almost all the characters and I like both the learning about the Earth parts and the stuff happening on the Ark.

• I like Clarke. I think she's pretty much the badass of the group. She does what she needs to - from impromptu surgery on a screaming teenager to mercy-killing someone else - and at the same time she fights really hard to keep everything together and make sure everyone is all right (planning the mountain hike, rescuing Jasper, refusing to accept that Jasper's death is inevitable). I love how focused she is. I love how she refuses to back down. She's also a good person who tries to do the right thing.

• I'm also beginning to really enjoy the power struggle between Clarke and Bellamy for leadership of the 100. Bellamy seemed really impressed with her mercy-killing of Adam so I'm interested to see if that changes their dynamic in any way.

• Bellamy is probably the most complicated character for me in that I'm really not sure how I feel about him. I really didn't like him in the pilot. I find his selfishness (in pursuing his own agenda regardless of how it effects anyone else) and shortsightedness because of that annoying. But his back and forth with Clarke makes him more interesting and more generally episode 3 gave us a different look at him.

• Abby's great. I was sold during her (non-)execution scene. She was just so together and calm. And with her last words she was trying to save everyone. Then when she was suddenly pardoned she barely let the experience phase her and was immediately ordering the Chancellor back to bed and heading back to work. The fact that she basically killed her husband just makes her more interesting.

• She's only been in the pilot thus far but I loved the little we got of CeCe and her friendship with Abby. I am kind of boggled that she's married to Kane. I wonder how that came about.

• Raven was also excellent. I really liked her. I loved that she's competent and smart and figured out what was happening on her own.

• Finn is the weak point for me. He's okay and there are times I like him but as the male protagonist/love interest he's not working for me. Plus he's sort of cheating on Raven which is so wrong and douchy.

• I was a little leery about Octavia after the first episode but I actually really like her. It was the scene where she tried to help Monty establish contact with the ark that made me really pay attention to her (and Monty). I liked that she was all ready to join everyone to try and save Jasper.

The fact that she dropped her hostility towards Clarke also probably helped a lot. I feel like they might actually have the start of a friendship which is great. I really liked Clarke trying to take Octavia somewhere private to tell her about Adam.

• I'm weirdly fond of Monty considering how much in the background he is. He just seems like a genuinely nice guy who wants to be helpful.

• I am really enjoying Monty and Octavia together. Him opening up about Jaspar was a great little scene. I also loved them helping Jaspar and then protecting him from Murphy. Honestly I'm kind of shipping him with Octavia but I'd be fine with them becoming BFF.

• Jasper is actually probably my least favourite of the kids but we'll see how things go.

• My least favouite character is Councilor Kane. He's clearly doing what he thinks is necessary and actually I can see his point of view. It's a very difficult situation they're in. But he is just so harsh and closed off it makes it hard to connect with him. Plus his attempt to kill Abby (and his coldness towards CeCe over it) was him being a jackass not him doing a hard task for the survival of everyone. I hope he gets fleshed out more soon.

• Wells I really liked. I did not see his death coming until Charlotte sat down beside him and then I was pretty much on the edge of my seat all 'no. they wouldn't do that, no way'. And then THEY DID! I thought Wells was one of the characters that was safe! He's a main character! I'm sad and disappointed he's gone because I liked him and his relationship with Clarke a lot.

• At least Wells got his wish and got Clarke's forgiveness before he died. I am glad about that.

• They did a pretty good job setting up the end of episode 3 and Charlotte's actions. From her screaming nightmares at the beginning, to Bellamy's little pep talk and giving her the knife, to her watching Clarke kill Adam - it just led so clearly to what happened. It's really sad all around.

• When Bellamy told Clarke that 'someone had to make the hard choices' I really wanted her, or Wells, to come back with 'like the Chancellor did when he enforced the law that floated your mom?' Life on the Ark was hard and it sucked in a lot of ways - and those ways came about by people having to make hard choices.

• So were the Chancellor and Abby having an affair or was he just unrequitedly in love with her?
