Once Upon a Time 3x16 & 3x17 Thoughts

iaria3x16 'It's Not Easy Being Green'
• Unduing the past. Hmmm. I don't think they'd actually do that but it could be very interesting. Maybe as a single episode 'what if'?
• What the heck was Hook telling Henry for hours (it went from day to night) if it wasn't what his father was like? It would have been nice if we'd actually seen him telling Henry some story about Neal. But I still liked their scenes and the emotional continuity of it.
• I like Robin and Robin/Regina well enough but during the the letter reading/heart scenes I was a bit disappointed about his existence because if he wasn't around those scenes could only have been filled by Emma or Snow and I would have loved that. That said I did really love the letter reading scene.
• I don't entirely buy Regina giving her heart into Robin's safe-keeping. She's changed a lot over the years but that still seems like far too much trust for her to give especially to someone she doesn't really know that well.
• I liked how Regina and Zelena had colour-coded gloves during their confrontation.
• I loved Regina removing her heart before the fight. They may have both been trained by Rumpelstiltskin but Regina was raised by Cora and her relying on what she learned from her mother to survive was great.
• Once again Rumpelstiltskin being a horrible person comes around to bite him in the ass.
• I liked Regina's sad/worried look at Henry during the funeral. I liked Hook and Emma during it as well.
• Emma was looking very pretty.
3x17 'The Jolly Roger'
So many little moments I loved this episode.
• I loved Emma getting serious about learning to use her powers and Regina stepping in to teach her. I hope we get a lot more of Regina as Emma's magic mentor.
- I loved Regina's freaked out expression when Emma fell and then when she rose back up how she immediately switched to an 'exactly as I planned' expression. Heh.
- I also loved how proud/pleased she looked when Emma got the mirror magic working. Absolutely no jealousy there which was interesting.
- I love how much Emma now trusts Regina. After falling into the canyon she didn't even get mad at Regina.
• The Charming family stuff was lovely. Emma and David trying to build the crib together while Snow watched; Snow and Charming being all offended that Henry doesn't think they're fun; David coming up with driving lessons to convince Henry to like him more than Hook (heee); Emma's amused response when she learned about it - it was all great.
• I loved Regina's 'you did what?!' reaction to Charming letting Henry drive and then her having to cover it up and Emma's amusement.
• Loved, loved the final family dinner - with Regina happily sitting there with them. Actually the episode sort of bookends Regina as part of the Charming family - ending with her eating dinner with them and starting by putting a protection spell around the Charming's home so that everyone would be safe (implication being her as well).
• It was great to see Ariel again. I loved her searching for Eric, to the point that she was willing to confront pirates, and her being the one to rescue him (even though I still don't buy their love). I was also really impressed with Ariel's actress - during 'Ariel's' last scene with Hook in Storybrooke I could tell something was off and she really reminded me of Zelena. So good job there.
• I'm continuing to really enjoy Hook/Emma. I also liked Regina confronting Emma about his feelings for her.
• If Hook kisses Emma, and thus removes her powers, without telling her about Zelena's ultimatum I am going to be pissed. It's not as if Zelena had someone right there that she is going to kill right that moment if he didn't do it. It was just a vague sort of threat without much of a timeline. Why wouldn't he just go and tell everyone what Zelena said/did? She's threatened to kill everyone Emma loves? Uh, pretty sure they're already in danger. So the set up for this rock/hard place situation was done badly and it's not really that hard a choice to make. This is really more a choice Emma needs to make (and the group as a whole) and I see no reason why it can't be.
