Nikita 4x03 Thoughts

This was a good episode - if this was a full season. But with only three episodes left I find myself a bit frustrated with some of the choices the show is making. Specifically what character and relationship stuff they're choosing to focus on.
• I'm very glad that Birkoff wasn't an imposter nor brainwashed by Amanda.
• There was some nice Birkoff/Nikita moments especially their last scene.
• I loved the little Michael/Sam showdown especially the part where there's a stand-off and then the camera pulls back to show Sonya calmly pointing a gun at Sam and ordering him out. Completely calm and collected. Yay, Sonya! We've only been getting glimpses of her but what we've seen shows her to be a lot more confident than she was last season.
• I loved Birkoff's communications with his father. I loved that it was half made up of insults.
• I was a bit worried that Birkoff would blame Nikita for his father's (apparent) death and be angry with her so I'm glad that didn't happen.
• Peller's "Why'd you do it, Lionel?" to Birkoff's picture was really bad. It was a stupid thing for Peller to do especially since his captor was standing right there but it was also just bad on the part of the show. I expect more from the Nikita writers. It was a lazy but quick way for them to advance events without caring how dumb it was. And it was so dumb. It's worse considering that they could have easily had Amanda - who while kind of crazy is also very perceptive - figuring it out without needed the blinking arrow of a clue. I figured just the fact that he asked for a picture added to how long it took would have been enough for her to get suspicious. It should have been enough. Bad writers.
• Sadly I'm finding Sam a lot less interesting than Owen. He's just so flat as a character. I don't care at all about what's going on with him and the possible loan shark. Or any of his issues in fact. Mostly I'm finding myself missing Owen during his scenes and wishing he could come back.
• I'm also not really interested in Sam/Alex. Maybe if this was a full season it'd be different, they've had some nice scenes together especially last season, but it's not and knowing how little time there is I find myself annoyed that time is being wasted on them. I would much rather have Sam/Nikita (or more Owen/Nikita) scenes since that's the relationship that's been built up.
Or you know, some freaking Alex/Nikita scenes! Ugh. Only three episodes to go and they still haven't had a scene (excepting the phone call). This is unacceptable!
• I was also sad and annoyed that we didn't get more Alex/Michael interaction at the end. But then their relationship has often been shortchanged since season 2 so I shouldn't be surprised. I think that Sam/Alex moment that I just didn't care about made it more annoying to me that there wasn't a Michael/Alex one instead.
