Elementary and Agents of SHIELD Thoughts
Apr. 28th, 2014 10:14 pmElementary 2x21:
I'm not a big fan Mycroft/Joan, and was in fact hoping they'd drop any hint of that, so that part of the episode of meh for me. It's just that Joan knows how difficult things are between Sherlock and Mycroft and it seems inconsiderate, I guess, to get involved with him. So I suppose I'm on Sherlock's side in their argument - minus everything Sherlock actually said or did because he was out of line (but - as per usual, you know?) and Joan deserved that apology. That said her anger at the end felt less organic an more about upping the stakes/angst for her kidnapping.
It was great seeing Miss Hudson again. I hope next season she's around more often. She should be a reoccurring character not just someone who shows up once a season. Actually this goes for Alfredo and Randy as well. Minus Gregson and Bell this show is not really good with reoccurring characters and I wish it would have more of them with bigger roles.
Agents of SHIELD 1x19 'The Only Light in the Darkness':
I liked this episode.
• I loved the final scene. It was my favourite of the episode. Melinda's mother is awesome! I love that they clearly have a tense relationship but she still drove 500 miles to pick Melinda up. I love that she used to work for a spy agency and has contacts. I love that casual way she questions whether Melinda is planning on killing Maria.
• I was a bit shocked when May left but I like that she has a goal and is still undoubtedly trying to help the team.
• I loved all the lie detector tests. The best part was everyone's different desert island answers. Both May and Trip answered immediately and without evasiveness - her a machete, him a SAT phone -, both Fitz and Ward wanted more information and when Eric told them to just answer both were very prompt - Simmons and a gun, respectively - and then there was Simmons and Skye who both hemmed and hawed and thought out loud - Jemma went with the TARDIS (because duh!) while Skye went with her laptop before talking herself out of it.
• I'm liking Trip more and more with every episode. I love him being all smart and capable and his gorgeous grin.
• Also I like that he's the grandson of a Howling Commando. I love the whole idea of there being 'legacy' agents (so Sharon Carter would count too.) Now I want a (will never happen) scene of Trip talking to Steve about the stories his grandpa used to tell.
• "That was her mission." - Ward. He was very quick to say that.
• I thought Skye was excellent. I liked her figuring out the tracking and her convincing Eric to let her hack the NSA. I liked her lie detector test. I liked the reveal that she does only have one name because she named herself and she doesn't have a family so no family name. I was wondering. Also 'Mary Sue Poots', lol.
But I loved her reaction to finding Eric and figuring out Ward is Hydra. She had a short freak-out and cry in the bathroom but then immediately started to plan. She didn't fall into denial or refuse to accept the evidence. She possibly left a message in the bathroom, replaced the penny (smart!) and then went and played Ward. I was very impressed.
• Poor Eric Koenig. He was really sweet. I was really hoping that Ward would just shove him in a closet or something.
• I found the Portland side of the episode the weakest part. Every time it went to Coulson I just wanted it to back to the secret base. I wasn't sold either on the Coulson/Audrey relationship.
• "When there's a chance she'll understand." - Coulson. WTH, Coulson?! Ugh, I hate 'lying to protect someone' and this is particularly stupid. 'Understand' what exactly? He doesn't have to tell her the details of how he survived, she clearly won't think he's Hydra, and I'm pretty sure she'd understand him needing to concentrate on 'work'. What she's not going to understand is him saving her and then walking away without letting her know he's alive. Because it's stupid.
• "You would have done the same thing. Our job is to follow orders." - May. Exactly! You can't tell me that Coulson hasn't done stuff he didn't agree with because he was ordered to.
• I liked the mentions of Natasha and Bruce.
