Bleeding Through

This was an amazing Regina and Regina/Snow episode. I loved it.

• This episode was all about showcasing Regina's growth as person.

- Upon discovering the loss of her heart her first question is to whether anyone is hurt. She is calm. She tells Robin - "Nothing is worth the life of a child." (though this part I think might have been true in season one just with more yelling/anger).

- She apologises to Belle! "I'm sorry Belle. I really, really am." And it seemed pretty sincere. Plus she acknowledging that Belle had reason to feel pissed and didn't try to divert any of the blame on anyone else. Character growth!

- She acknowledged that Snow had reason to hate Cora - Cora killed Snow's mother - and that the situation is complicated.

- She spends much of the episode doing her very best to protect Snow and at the end finally puts aside the last of her anger/hate towards Snow.

- She finally decides to follow her heart and push past her fear by gong to Robin and kissing him.

And she went through everything without her heart! I'm not sure how well this fits with what we've seen of how people are once their hearts are taken out since Regina seemed more open and forgiving then ever before.

• Really wonderful Snow/Regina. I loved that Snow stayed behind to apologize to Regina. I loved Regina's determination to protect Snow. Their discussions about their past and relationship were great. Their final scene was so lovely. They were bonding! I loved it.

"I think we've wasted out last day being haunted by the past." - Snow
"Now we can focus on our impending lack of a future." - Regina

LOL. Yeah, that's so them. I also really liked their exchange just before this with Regina wryly noting that if they knew more about their past she might not have spent as much time trying to kill Snow and Snow cutely noting that they would have found something to fight about since she was a brat.

• I love the acknowledgement that the situation between Regina and Snow is complicated but I feel like the show really glossed over the most important point - that Snow didn't just kill Cora but that she manipulated Regina into killing her. It was very cruel and Regina should be even more pissed about that. Now that they've agreed to put the past behind them I feel like this is never going to be addressed which is annoying.

• I do find myself wondering if their missing year in the Enchanted Forest is leaking through subconsciously for Regina because her relationship with Snow is a lot better then it was during even 3x11 and because of how open and trusting she is with Robin. She may not remember that year in the Enchanted Forest but I think it's still affecting her actions and relationships.

• I loved Belle. Such a good use of her this ep (which really tends to waver). I loved that she was already looking into things when Regina approached her. I loved that she figured out Zelena's plan.

I loved her "What do I have here? Self-respect." and confronting Regina about all the seriously horrible stuff Regina has done with her. She did the same with Hook. She confronts people when they do bad shit to her but when they make noises of apology/amends she also gives them a chance which I also really liked.

• I loved Emma's glee at using her magic. "Boom! Granny's to go. I should open a franchise." was adorable and I loved her giggling when she magic'd away Hook's hook. She was just so free and happy. It was really nice to see someone actually enjoying their magic and having fun with it.

• This episode could also be called 'Regina and Rumpelstiltskin's Character Growth, Part 2' (part 1 being 3x11 'Going Home') because he also got a huge moment. The Rumpelstilskin of old would have aligned with Zelena in a second. Her plan even had the added bonus of giving him back the chance to get young Baelfire back.

• I enjoyed the Regina/Zelena scene. Their back and forth sniping is fun to watch. I loved the bit with the apples (once again dividing them as red and green). Also Regina looking gorgeous in that scene.

• I liked getting an even better reason (then simply bullying) for why Cora hated princess Eva so much. It also puts her obsession with Regina marrying Leopold in a slightly different, creepy, light. It's also interesting that she ends up forcing Eva's daughter into doing a similar thing to her own daughter.

• It's too bad that Barbara Hershey couldn't return (I'm assuming) because it would have worked better for Snow and Regina to be confronted with the wraith of the older Cora they knew.

• You have to give Cora points for her determination and goal focused attitude. She wanted to be a royalty and she didn't give up on that even after two rather spectacular failures. Plus I guess if anyone would figure out how to hang on after a summoning ritual it would be her. This episode did make her even more sympathetic. I also love how even in the beginning Cora was very much in control of her own destiny.

• I don't think that Eva's actions were that bad? She learned that the women her fiancé dumped her for was lying to him and told him. Plus Cora was presumably planning on passing her child as Leopold's and if bloodline matter (which I think they probably do) that's a huge deal.

• My biggest issue was Hook. Why the hell hasn't he told anyone, especially Emma, about the kiss curse and threat yet?! Stop moping about and just tell everyone! I do not get his brooding angst over this and it just makes me want to smack him upside the head. Ugh. It's manufactured angst and I do not like it.
