Twilight's Last Gleaming

I am really enjoying this show.

• That ending was so tense that I had my hand over my mouth the entire time. And it was so tense because this is the kind of show that would actually kill 320 people. And then it did. On most other shows you know that the teens would set the rockets off just in time, and Abby would get the call and those people would have been saved. But of course not this show. I kind of love that about it.

- At the same time I was really hoping the 100 would be in time and awesome ginger dad would be saved. His last scene with his daughter was really sad and his actual death was even sadder. The barrette!

- I also really liked how it was shot. Flipping back and forth between those on Earth and those on the Ark. The contrast between the sad hopelessness on the Ark as those people go to their deaths voluntarily and the busy hopefulness as the 100 come together to try and save them. It was very effectively done.

• This episode was all about doing something that you think you need to do only for it to be revealed later that you actually didn't. On this show that something always seems to be connected to death.

- Kane's plan, backed by the Chancellor and Councillors, wasn't needed in the end. Those 320 didn't need to die. If they'd given Raven more time or had gone with coma plan they'd all still be alive. 320 unnecessary sacrifices and wasted lives. It's just really sad.

- Clarke's dad Jake's death was also unnecessary. They floated him because they thought his revelations would lead to panic and riots but instead it brought out self-sacrifice and pulled people together. How bitter and sad for Abby and Jaha to know that they killed their husband/best friend - and they really didn't need to. Ouch. And that's on top of the 320 people who they just killed for no reason. I see a lot of guilt and sorrow in their future.

- Then there's Bellamy who thought he was a murderer and so destroyed every way to contact the Ark that he could - only to learn he didn't kill anyone and his actions weren't necessary and now he is in fact a murderer. His actions directly lead to the deaths of those 320 and he shares responsibility with the Chancellor and councillors for them.

Of everyone whose actions lead to death his were also the most selfish. Bellamy shooting Jaha in order to go with Octavia to protect her was sympathetic but his actions afterward not so much. He turned his back on the Ark, even after learning there was only months of air left, because he was afraid of what would happen to him if they re-established contact. I'm really interested to see what his reaction is when they learn what happened on the Ark.

• I loved the 100 coming together to save those 320 - and then they failed. That's a pretty crushing moment for the future but in the now they are working together which will probably become very important for their immediate survival.

• The show is continuing to give Kane more depth which is great. I liked him talking Jaha out of committing suicide and I loved his little moment with Abby outside the section. He also seemed just as sad and upset with the deaths as everyone else.

• I don't hate what the show is doing at the moment with the hopefully non-love triangle. I loved Clarke's very understated reaction - she was hurt and angry but she had shit to do and so pushed it aside. There was no drama over it. It was great. But then there was that moment with Clarke looking at Finn/Raven after they set off the rockets and I'm a bit worried. I just really hope that it doesn't devolve into an actual love-triangle. *fingers crossed* Both Clarke and Raven are too awesome for Finn (though I did like him in the previous episode) and I really, really don't want them at odds/fighting over him.

• I really liked the scene between Clarke and Raven at the beginning with Raven's joy at being on Earth and Clarke's pleasure at her joy. I like that the show had them interacting before the Finn revelation.

• I also liked the very little moment where Clarke was getting a bandage out of her bag before Finn had considered it. It's little touches like that that make her great.

• Raven is awesome. I loved her figuring out how to contact the Ark without a radio and her competence in getting it done. Also how completely un-intimidated she is by Bellamy and her pulling the knife on him when he manhandled her.

• I also continue to really like Abby. I loved her releasing the video to stop the floating. I just really wish that she had stuck to her guns, pushed harder to wait.

• I was surprised that Raven made no mention of the fact that Abby had potentially been floated for helping send her down. I was completely expecting to get a reversal of the previous episode with this time Clarke thinking her mother might have died but holding out hope and then in a later episode them finding each other again.

• I can't believe that Bellamy didn't notice Octavia was missing.

• I'd love if the 100 created their own mini-council on Earth. They already started with Clarke and Bellamy declaring themselves co-leaders. Bellamy should clearly never be allowed to make decisions on his own so giving a couple more people power makes sense. Raven seems an obvious addition but I'm not sure who else.

• Where the hell is CeCe? I wondered in the previous episode but it was rather glaring in this one for me. Does the actress have other commitments or something? ETA: I just looked at IMDb and it appears she is only in the pilot . They really need to address this because Abby's BFF and Kane's wife just disappearing is super distracting. Also now I'm super sad because I love Kelly Hu and I loved what we saw of her friendship with Abby. If they couldn't get the actress back I wish they'd recasted her.

• I'm not sure why they didn't just send those 320 people down to Earth. Even if they think that Earth is unlivable it's still a chance at survival. Abby seems convinced the kids are still alive but she didn't even suggest it. That doesn't make sense to me. Is it a resource issue?
