Castle 3x11 Review

• I really enjoyed this episode though the beginning with Castle trying to impress Natalie was kind of excruciating. Once he got over that though it was much better.
• I thought Laura Prepon did an awesome job as Natalie Rhodes and I really hope we get to see her again. I loved her interactions with Beckett and Castle, and how she immersed herself in her research to the point where she was looking like Beckett and ‘playing’ Beckett. I did find her involvement in getting the killer to put down the gun a little much. I found myself completely agreeing with Castle – in the beginning I was not impressed with her as Nikki Heat, as the episode progressed I found myself re-thinking and by the end I was sold.
• I was very amused by Beckett freaking out about Natalie single-white-femaleing her but that she started and ended the episode with a good relationship with her.
• I also really liked how they played Beckett’s reaction to the kiss between Castle and Natalie – she was jealous, and angry about it but she didn’t lash out or anything.
• It was great to see Nikki aka Melody Thomas Scott with a short guest role.
• I really wish the show would give Alexis something more to do, not related to Ashley, like perhaps interning at the police station or something. I really like her interactions with Beckett and I can’t remember the last time we saw them in a scene together.
• Ryan’s B-plot with wanting to propose to his girlfriend Jenny came out of nowhere because we know nothing about Esposito and Ryan’s lives. I’d completely forgotten he even had a girlfriend! So the proposal scene was nice but there was no emotional attachment for me. Have we even met her before this episode? I wish we’d gotten a couple scenes between Jenny and Ryan before this episode, and of Jenny interacting with Castle and the cops.
