Night Zero

I really liked it!

I love the mythology we're already getting. I love the mix of old vampire stuff (the coffin of dirt! being unable to cross water!) and new twists to vampire/zombies (the worms, the look of the vampire, how they feed). Most new vampire shows/books discard a lot of the Dracula stuff (see aforementioned dirt/water) so seeing it here actually feels fresh and new while also being rooted in the past. I loved what we saw of the vampire at the airport. Very creepy. It's black organic like cape pooled around it was a very cool visual. Kind of reminded me of Spawn actually. Or a wraith. I love how fast it was as well and how it moved.

I wonder what other old school vampire powers/weakness it has? The fact that it went through and infected everyone on the plane without any noticeable reaction from them (based on their bodies afterwards) makes me think it has to have some sort of hypnotism/mind control powers. Or a pheromone it can release that paralyses it's intended victims? It also seemed to call the airport employee to him which argues for some mental abilities.

The characters are... eh, okay thus far. There is one character I am very interested in - the old kickass Jewish guy who faced this before - but most of them didn't really engage me. Especially our lead Dr. Ephraim with his marriage he won't accept is over and his second in command that he had an affair with. No thanks. Nora, CDC second, could be interesting. She seemed a lot more open to what the old guy was saying. Samwise, whose character's name I can't recall, could also be interesting in that he's tied up in some way with the 'vampires' and I want to know more about that. I do wish there were more female characters.

But mostly the interest thus far really is all about the story and wanting to know what the hell is going on and how does this whole thing work. Part way through I wondered if the survivors were the ones who would up turning into vampires while the dead would end up turning into zombies. A plague of zombies happening at the same time as vampires are taking over isn't something I've seen before. Or the zombies could be like Renfields that serve the vampires? Except then the little girl showed up at her home and a) could talk, b) remembered where her home was, c) didn't rip her father's throat out, and d) blinked her eyes the same way the human looking vampire did. So probably not a zombie. Which makes me wonder if all the dead are potential vampires and those that survived are... immune to vampirism? Unless that human-looking dude with the creepy eyes isn't a vampire? Are there multiple different types of vampires? Or are we seeing the different life stages of vampires? (So start zombie vampire progress to collected human like vampire and end up creepy wraith vampire)?

Who knows! I don't but I'm definitely interested in finding out. Especially since the shit is really going to hit the fan in the next episode and I can't wait to see how it plays out.

Other things:

Old hunter dude is collecting silver and has made himself a cane sword with a silver wolf handle. I love it but it makes me wonder if we're going to be seeing werewolves. Or is it just a little nod to the werewolf/vampire feud in other versions?

Why did the vampire smash in Bishop's head after feeding on him? So that he wouldn't change?
