Teen Wolf 3B Thoughts
Aug. 19th, 2014 11:34 pmI’ve only seen bits and pieces of Teen Wolf but I had access to season 3B and decided to watch it. I've spent the last five days or so marathoning through it and I really enjoyed it.
General
• Stiles/Scott are the best. ♥ I love their friendship so much. My favourite on the show.
• I love the parents and parent/child relationships on this show. Sheriff/Stiles and Melissa/Scott are so wonderful. There were also a couple Melissa/Stiles scenes that I really loved.
• I love Derek. I love him popping up with useful information, I love him trying to help everyone, I loved his pettiness, I love his bitchy little looks, I love that when Aiden was dying he actually looked sad and tried to comfort him. I even find his inability to win any fight kind of endearing.
• Man, Derek loves Scott. He just wants to be family so much! I find it both sad and sweet. They had some really lovely scenes this half season. I especially loved the scene at the hospital in 3x18. Derek's little smile at the end!
• I was disappointed when Allison's Nemeton-induced issues were dealt with so quickly because I loved everything about that. Her being haunted by Kate, the losing time and loss of her abilities. I wish that they'd kept that as a b-plot throughout 3b alongside the nogitsune a-plot.
• I love Coach Finstock. Possibly the biggest surprise for me but he's hilarious and a genuinely good guy (for ex> he was good with Meredith, and supportive with Malia in the finale) and I want more of him.
• Kira is adorable. I liked her from the beginning. I found her awkwardness, her glee/excitement about inappropriate things [death, breaking and entering) and her embarrassment at her father really likeable.
• I loved Stiles snarkiness/bitchiness towards Isaac at the beginning. "Okay, what's the point of him?" Heh.
• I like Lydia but I find her voice really distracting.
• Going into the show I did not have the best impression of Chris, especially with regards to anything to do with Derek, because one of the few scenes of his I’d seen was him being purposefully very cruel to Derek about his family (at that gas station in season 1.) So colour me surprised because I loved all the Derek/Chris stuff. Derek saving Chris and them working together at the police station was great. Possessed!Derek pouring lighter fluid over Chris and taunting him was an awesome scene. I loved everything about that including Chris’s ”Don’t make me kill you, Derek.” when he gets free. I’m hoping season four continues building a friendship between them. They can bond over losing all their family!
• Dylan O'Brien did such a great job. I loved Nogitsune!Stiles.
• Deaton's a badass.
• Derek made it a habit of just randomly appearing this season and I loved it. I kind of want it to be a running gag now.
Moments
• 'Scott’s the pretty girl.' That whole scene was awesome. Stiles reassuring Scott, Isaac backing Stiles up even though he had no idea what was going on, Scott's super pleased reaction, Isaac's pleased smile when Scott wandered happily off. So great.
• Derek scaring the trick-or-treaters and his smug smile afterwards. Lol, Derek
• Dead aunt Kate crawling in the vent. Super creepy.
• Melissa having no patience for roughhousing werewolves.
• Chris entering Allison’s room to find half-naked Isaac and his “another werewolf?!” reaction. LOL.
• Derek casually revealing that he'd been following Scott all day. Hee.
• Stiles and Scott in the MRI room. Really, really beautiful scene. Scott's implicit promise to give Stiles the Bite if he needs to, the long hug... a really well acted scene.
• The Scott/Nogitsune!Stiles scene at the end of 3x19.
• Allison's protectiveness of Lydia during their meeting with Peter and her shocking him when he went after Lydia. Awesome.
• The Sheriff/Allison elevator scene in 3x21 was really lovely.
3x23 "Insatiable"
I didn’t realise how invested I'd gotten but this episode made me cry a little.
• First, the Allison/Chris scene made me all teary-eyed I think in part because I knew that Allison was going to die. It was a really beautiful scene. I loved Allison’s ”I love you. I’m proud of you. I’m proud of us.” Her taking the time to say this to him could have been contrived but instead worked really well with the call-back to her mother’s death.
• Second, Allison’s death. I knew it was coming, I’ve only been watching for half a season and I found her goodbye to Scott a bit much but it still got to me.
• I kind of like that things were left unfinished with Allison –she felt something was missing with her arrowhead casts but didn’t have the time to figure it out before she needed to go save Lydia, she and Isaac were still fumbling their way into a relationship but nothing had really been stated out loud, and her last words were for her father but left unspoken. So many things left incomplete and it works so well. I just wish they’d cut out most of her exchange with Scott, to be honest. I’d have preferred – “Isaac okay? Can’t feel any pain. Shh, it’s okay. Tell my dad, tell him…” and dead.
• I like that Allison died fighting to save the people she cared about [Lydia, Isaac] and that she got one final moment of triumph before dying.
• Everyone - Scott, Stiles, Allison, Kira and Isaac - meeting outside the gates was a lovely little scene. I liked Scott's little pep talk and I loved this:
"I’m here to save my best friend." - Allison
"I’m here to save mine." - Scott
• I loved the Stiles/Sheriff reunion.
• I loved Scott’s reaction to his dad’s big reveal. I love how blasé he was about it and how much he just did not care about his dad’s apology. I like that there was basically no drama over it. I really love, and am relived, that the secret wasn’t something that reflected badly on Melissa that could have damaged her relationship with Scott which the nogitsune implied.
• I loved the shot of Noshiko marching into Oak Creek with her Oni.
3x24 'The Divine Move'
• I really love the return of Kate. She's an awesome villain, from what I've seen. Her past/relationship with Derek is really interesting to me. Can't wait to see more. I also love that we've had hints of her return throughout 3B. I do wish that Allison and her issues in the beginning had continued with perhaps her investigating the possibility of Kate returning or something.
• The Chris/Isaac scenes were really nice.
• A very short scene but I loved Scott (and Stiles) working with Malia to teach her control.
• "Dude, it’s Beacon Hills." - Danny. Hah! I love the reveal that Danny has known all along about the supernatural. I wonder when the heck he figured it out? I'm kind of hoping now that it’s revealed that the supernatural is an open secret in town because, really, that would make the most sense. [I'm thinking of things like all those people who saw Kira suck all the power from the downed power-line at the hospital and had no real reaction.] Also I want an episode a la BTVS's "The Zeppo" that follows Danny's POV of some of the crap that happens in town.
• Interesting that Derek's dream/hallucination is of Stiles instead of say Scott like I'd expect.
• Kira's voice over was perfectly fine. I even liked it - up until we see that she's making this confessing to Lydia of all people. WTH?! How does that make any sense!? She's confessing that she doesn't know what to say to 'them' or how much space and time to give 'them' - Lydia is one of 'them'! She was Allison's freaking best friend! Thus a completely inappropriate person for Kira to be saying this to. Her dad (or mom) would have made sense, or hell, Finstock would have been funny but, geez, not Lydia. That just ended up feeling intrusive and kind of needy.
• Wait, why did Aiden die? Were the Oni swords covered in wolfsbane? Because otherwise that stab wound doesn't really seem enough to kill a werewolf. That confused me although I don't really care that he's dead.
