Teen Wolf 4x12 Thoughts

Derek
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
This made the whole episode for me. Yeah, other stuff happened but I don't care because - Derek. (＾▽＾) That was amazing.
"No I was evolving, something you will never do." - Derek. And he evolved into awesomeness! He got his blue eyes back! He got a new actual wolf form! (So pretty, just like his mom). He got to keep his weird human ability to win a fight. He got... magical powers?? uh, okay.
I mean, this doesn't make much sense to me. And there was basically no explanation for Derek's loss of powers or why he died and evolved (??) back into life (or you know anything) but he did survive and he has a wolf form and he's happy and it's making me happy. My OTP for the show is Derek/Happiness which I figured was probably a doomed ship and yet as of right now it's canon. YAY.
- Although this seriously would have been the perfect opportunity for Derek to become a True Alpha. I mean really. He was willing to die to save Scott and Kira. His eyes changed colour. Why would they change back to blue from yellow?
Liked
• Derek/Braeden make me smile. She seems to really care for him and it's been a whole season and she hasn't turned evil or tried to kill him yet so it's looking really good! I loved the fury with which she shot the berserker attacking him. I liked her opening up and confessing that she does care for him.
• All the Derek/Stiles interactions. My favourite was Stiles looking back at Derek for a long moment before going into the temple. I liked that how freaked out he was after the attack on Derek. I liked him and Derek working together to calm Liam and Stiles arm grasp of relief when he succeeded.
• Peter's reaction to Derek being mortally wounded. He was affected by it. He really did seem honestly shocked and upset. I actually believe he was. That for one moment Peter saw past his own wants and cared.
• I loved the Sheriff bringing Malia into a family group hug. And she was so happy about it! Also the sheriff/Stiles hugs are the best.
• LOL at Peter's expression when Stiles got a call from his dad in the catacombs.
• Lydia and Mason attacking the berserker with baseball bats was great (and dumb). Also the way Mason went running past Lydia yelling as he attacked was amusing. I'm really glad that Mason is going to be in the know next season. I also loved the Sheriff coming to the rescue and taking out the berserker.
• This exchange between Stiles and Liam, which made me laugh a lot:
"We'd have to freeze you in carbonite to get you down there." - Stiles
"Okay, then where do we get carbonite?" - Liam
HAHAHA. Stiles expression was great.
• It looks like next season is going to be the season of the Desert Wolf. I loved the reveal that Braeden used to be a US marshal (just how old is she?) until she became too obsessed with hunting down the Desert Wolf. Hopefully that means next season she'll get more screen time and more fleshed out.
• We spent the whole season not really going into Kate's motivations or what was going on in her head, except for her desire to learn control, so I liked getting to see that in the last two episodes. I liked seeing her anger and sincere grief over Allison's death. I liked all the Kate/Chris interactions.
Didn't Like
• I'm not happy that it was Liam who got through to Scott instead of Stiles. That was just wrong. So wrong.
Same with Scott managing to defeat Peter because Peter attacked Liam. I'd have far preferred it to happen because Peter attacked all of his friends. The singling out of Liam and how important he is to Scott ended up really bugging me. He is important to Scott, for a lot of reasons, but this was all too much for me.
Add to that their last scene of the episode - with Stiles and Coach - and it ending with the two of them smiling at each other after Scott agrees to watch out for Liam, and I found myself feeling resentful. And I like Liam and Scott! But the show was pushing their bond hard and I don't like when I feel pushed. Plus it ended up coming at the expense of Scott/Stiles who I love which only makes me more resentful.
• It bothers me that Malia's response this time to what her favourite food is was 'pizza'. No, that's what Stiles said her favourite food. In the last episode her favourite was deer. Now she could go out and find a new favourite food, pizza's great, but we don't see that. We see her accepting Stiles tastes as her own. I find this kind of disturbing. Peter had a point - Malia trying to bury and ignore all the parts of her that aren't human isn't the best way to go.
• I wish they had shown Malia's reaction to Derek's injury more - but then they haven't bothered to develop their relationship at all this season, haven't even had them interact after she learned that they were related
• Parrish wandering off to Mexico with Chris and the Calaveras without keeping the Sheriff in the loop made absolutely no sense to me. Nor did Chris not calling Derek/the Sheriff/Scott. There was no reason for them not to try and contact any of the others, especially knowing that Peter was working for Kate, except that TPTB wanted the surprise of them riding to the rescue. Not good enough.
Other
• That last look between Derek and Scott was - interesting. Considering how well their relationship is now and that Derek was willing to, and almost did, die to save him I would have expected at least a smile, maybe even a hug or manly back pat. Something.
• It was great to see the Calvaleras show up since I've been wondering where they disappeared to. In fact I was thinking when Stiles was talking with his dad that they'd be the perfect people to call. Now what the hell have they been up to for the last couple episodes?
• So I guess that Peter wasn't actually stealing Derek's werewolfness/abilities? Or... actually we get no explanation did we? What was causing Derek's weakness?
• What was that bullet that Chris shot Kate with?
• Why did they put Peter in with Dr. Valack? I though maybe they were full and so inmates go roommates but there was only one bed in there. We're they hoping that Dr. Valack would use his third eye on Peter and put him in a coma? Because this really doesn't seem like something that's going to help make Peter a better person.
