Doctor Who 8x11 Thoughts

I liked it.
• I loved all the Doctor/Clara interactions. They were so wonderful. Their scene after her betrayal was amazing. I loved the Doctor taking Clara's hand (Twelve voluntarily reaching out!) and asking if she was okay. I also loved Clara telling the Doctor not to speak for her.
- "Do you think that I care for you so little that betraying me will make a difference?" - Doctor. Eeeee! ♥ That was just beautiful. I loved his little rant before it ("You let me down!") and I loved how immediately after when Clara gets emotional in response the Doctor falls back on 'emotion ugh stop'.
- "I don't deserve a friend like you" - Clara
"Clara, I'm terribly sorry but I am exactly what you deserve" - Doctor.
• Missy is the Mistress is the Master! I'm rather excited about this. I love the Master. I love the Master and the Doctor together. I don't know that I'm completely sold on this new Master regeneration but I'm very interested and thus far her scenes with the Doctor are great. I like the actress too (though I wasn't too sure during her previous appearances), she was fun.
+ I love how flustered the Doctor was with Missy (even immediately upon meeting her.) I love that upon seeing the Doctor for the first time again Missy immediately attacks him with her mouth. Just really goes for that kiss, lol. Also she is continuing her usual innuendo laden ways of talking to/about the Doctor which I love:
- "My heart is maintained by the doctor." - Missy, while holding his hand to her chest. Oh, Master.
- "Two hearts." / "And both of them yours" - Missy ♥
- "Clara, Clara, Clara. You know I should shoot you in a jealous rage wouldn't that be sexy." - Missy.
+ I love getting to see the Master in a female regeneration. That's awesome. It's been canon that it can happen for a little while now but it's entirely different to get to actually see it happen. The Master is arguable the second most important Time Lord on the show and it feels like this is a major step to getting a female Doctor.
+ Yeah, it's a bit problematic that now that one of them is female the show immediately turns the Master/Doctor subtext into actual text with a kiss*. I think if they say or imply that there was nothing between the two of them in the past and then go ahead with an explicit romantic/sexual acknowledgement with this set of regenerations I will be mad. Or if in the future when the Master has a male regeneration again and suddenly things are made subtext again. But as it is right now it doesn't actually bother me that much. They've made Master/Doctor canon canon which means canon for all of their regenerations and I love that. (Although Doctor/Master isn't yet canon but I'm crossing my fingers.)
*well, 'text' that the Master is sexually interested in the Doctor at least. His obsession has always been canon but the romantic/sexual element was always more subtext.
• I do dislike the name change. I really wish she'd just stuck with the Master. I understand it's place as a misdirect to fool the Doctor as to who she really is but I want the Doctor to call her Master instead of Missy/Mistress going on.
• So I like Danny and Danny/Clara are sweet and I like them too... but Clara's reaction to his death and her betraying the Doctor like that felt a bit much for what we've seen. I guess I'm having a hard time buying that she loves him that much. I don't feel like they've been built enough as a couple for her reactions to work for me.
• I liked Seb a lot. He was a lot of fun.
• I really do love this new TARDIS now. I love the bookshelves and desks. Clara wandering throughout the main room at the beginning was great.
• Wait, so the Doctor really couldn't get back into the TARDIS without a key? That doesn't really make that much sense to me.
• The appearance of the cybermen took me by surprise though it really shouldn't have. I thought the dark water and the skeletons was neat and definitely better than yet another appearance by the daleks. The whole nethersphere idea was really creepy. And as a Master plot this whole thing worked for me.
• I felt like the episode started really abruptly. Clara with her notes and phone call with Danny was weird.
• Why would Dr. Chang immediately say something nice when Missy literally just tells him that she won't kill him until he does? I mean she would have killed him anyway but it was dumb of him regardless.
