Episode 11

• I was hoping for a second Seung Hee/Sun Hwa all out fight.

• When Tae Sung pulled out his gun and went to play action hero I was so sure that he was going to end up dead.

• I really loved the Sun Hwa/Hyun Joon confrontation. Another point she could have brought up was that now that he knows that Seung Hee is alive once they escape he can pretty much contact her at any time. It’s not like once they leave the NSS he’ll suddenly be unable to contact her again. He’s not going to another world. And he knows where she lives which he puts to use later in the episode. My translation of this scene had Sun Hwa saying “if we get caught here” which I loved. It’s not if ‘he’ gets caught but rather ‘we’ because of course if he stays behind she’ll stay by his side. I love how Sun Hwa looks after Hyun Joon which is pretty much entirely what she does this episode.

• It was very noticeable when Sun Hwa didn’t salute Cheol Yeong when the rest of the team did. I guess she hasn’t really forgiven him.

• I love Mi Jung reacting to praise over her actions with ‘Isn’t it common sense?’ calm and then pointing out as a hacker a computer is her weapon.

• I loved watching Seung Hee being competent at her job and that she figured out that Hyun Joon is alive. I was pretty surprised that she immediately went to Baek San with that information since Hyun Joon did just apparently betray NSS. We didn’t really get to see her acknowledge that part of the situation. She’s still stuck on him being alive and hasn’t worked through the implications yet.

• I thought for sure that Jung In would tell her about one of the terrorists saving her life. I’m surprised she didn’t make the connection.

• That Advisor Jung is spying on the president is interesting. Does no one on this show have straight up loyalties? From what it said it appears he’s working for the North Korean’s specifically the same people Cheol Yeong is working for.

• I really love is what this show does with its female characters. I mean I wish there were more – both as main and background – but what we get makes me happy. Seung Hee (anti-terrorist team leader at NSS), Sun Hwa (assassin/spy), Mi Jung (computer hacker), Jung In (NSS agent), Soo Jin (advisor to the president), Young Bum Dae Hyun (agent, can build nuclear bombs), Sato Erika (interrogator) – and all of them are completely competent at their jobs, aren’t questioned by anybody as being unfit or unable to do their jobs because they are women, and basically are just treated like people. We got one of the north Korean agents being pretty sexist/misogynist in episode 11 with his anger over two of his comrades being killed by a woman but mostly no one blinks.

Episode 12

• What exactly is Jung In’s job? Because Seung Hee keeps going to her with difficult problems and she says it’s too difficult and then she manages to help her anyway. Of course they were caught in this episode but Jung In still managed to successfully figure out how to help her. I love that – that Seung Hee counts on Jung In so much and that trust is well placed because Jung In always comes through for. Except then we did get to see Jung In’s limit later in the episode.

I had been wondering why Sang Hyun and Seung Hee (though less so for her) would jump to the conclusion that the person who fabricated Hyun Joon’s death also helped the terrorists instead of thinking that Hyun Joon helped the terrorists which seems more logical. I mean Hyun Joon was with the terrorists and was caught stealing from the NSS so it’s kind of the logical place to go and it’s exactly where Jung In went. So I kind of wish she’d continued to always be there for Seung Hee but I can’t blame her for telling Seung Hee that she couldn’t help her anymore. And even with a great reason she still looked guilty about it.
