The Decembrist (No. 12)

+ Whatttt?? Tom's been working for Red? For how long?! It can't have been from the beginning. Retconning them as working together during early season one just doesn't work. It makes no sense. So after the truth about Tom was revealed? What exactly was Tom doing for Red? Watching over Liz?

+ From the beginning I've been going back and forth on whether or not Lizzie is Red's daughter. It seemed the obvious answer from the pilot and yet the way they've dragged it out and addressed it makes me think that's not it. It's too obvious. So I've been firmly on the side of 'not his daughter' for awhile. But this episode has me wondering again if she is. In their final scene on the ship Red felt very fatherly/paternal towards her in a way he doesn't usually to me.

- "It wasn't worth it, not if the cost was you, here, in this filth"

- "When you love someone, you have no control. That's what love is — being powerless." Hmm, is that how Red feels with Lizzie? Powerless? Because in his interactions with her he is almost always the one with the power and knowledge, the one who ends up on top. Is it that he can't control himself - what he's willing to do to protect her, or how she makes him feel.

- "There's nothing wrong with you. There's nothing wrong with you." I heard an emphasis on that last 'you' ... implying there's something wrong with someone else. Him?

+ Still not enough Red/Liz. They're the best and most compelling part of the show and they've been shoved into the background a lot this season for some reason. I think that's a big mistake and I really hope it changes for the second half of the season. I want the season one focus on their relationship back.

+ The Berlin backstory with his daughter makes no sense to me because the casting for Zoe is all wrong. Going by the actress's age Zoe would have been only 10 in '91 and yet she was thrown in jail for being a dissident? [Is the whole falling in love part supposed to be true still?] Even if they're aging her above the actress they can't go that much older without it being completely unbelievable.

+ Why did Liz tell Ressler about Tom? She didn't really need him there.

+ I was not expecting both Berlin and Finch to die. Berlin makes sense since his storyline was pretty much done but there is still so much more to learn about Finch and his relationship with 'Ray'. Finch's scenes in this episode just made me want to see more of him.
