iariaThere's a post here by melannen detailing five alternate marriage/relationship systems found in Sci Fi that I found to be very interesting. I love threesomes; I have tons of OT3s; and I am increasingly finding myself of the ‘threesome!’ school of thought when dealing with triangles. But I rarely go beyond that with pairings. I have the occasional foursome/poly thoughts (most recently with the Elena/Stefan/Damon/Katherine situation) but it really hasn’t taken a hold and become just another pairing option to the extent that threesomes have. Her post really got me thinking about how I could fit my various fandoms/pairings into them and then I had to try it out (and it kind of ended up being like a meme).
Once I started thinking about sedoretu and my various fandoms I found it a bit difficult for me to fit many of my pairings into it. A problem I have is with breaking up pairings and especially OT3's that I really like or love. Such as in White Collar, Pirates of the Caribbean or other fandoms mentioned below.
- Boy Meets World has one of my biggest OT3s and what I consider a nearly perfect one (they even ended the show together!). Applying them to Sedoretu and adding in Angela works perfectly which surprised me. In fact in a way it even works better than my OT3 does.
Morning Man: Cory
Morning Woman: Angela
Evening Man: Shawn
Evening Woman: Topanga
That gives Cory/Topanga, Cory/Shawn, Shawn/Angela and Topanga/Angela pairings with Shawn & Topanga and Cory & Angela friendships. The first two pairings are the strongest canon relationships and are largely why I love my OT3 so much while the weak point of the OT3 – the Shawn/Topanga relationship which was never given the attention or depth that the other two got or that they deserved – is moved into a strong friendship that fits well with what we saw on the show. I never shipped them much but Shawn/Angela clearly loved each other very much and were a good couple. Topanga/Angela were best friends and honestly I don’t really need a reason to ship femslash. I actually don’t remember much at all about how Cory/Angela interacted but I’m quite happy about them being close friends. I actually really love this set up. I still love OT3 but I can love both. I know in fic people often put the boys together and then stick the girls together to get them out of the way which is something I don’t really like. I love that this form of relationship gives respect and includes all the relationships equally.
- Being Human is another fandom that fits pretty well.
Morning Man: George
Morning Woman: Annie
Evening Man: Mitchell
Evening Woman: Nina
This gives George/Nina, Annie/Mitchell, George/Mitchell and Annie/Nina pairings with Annie&George and Mitchell&Nina friendships. It doesn’t work as well as BMW but it's still pretty good. The two het canon pairings are together, the slash is something I can see in the show and while I see Annie/Nina mainly as close friends I could see them becoming more. I love the Annie & George friendship and while I ship them in OT3 (A/G/M but also A/G/N post season three) I don’t ship them as a pairing so this works for me. The biggest issue here is certainly the Mitchell & Nina relationship which is hardly what one would term a friendship let alone a close one. But in some alternate reality where Mitchell did manage to control his bloodlust I could see them in a bickering, hard-on-each-other, snarky faux siblings relationship.
- The Vampire Diaries was actually the first fandom that I wanted to try and fit into the Sedoretu but found that I couldn't with my favourite pairings. Unlike with my BMW OT3 I love every iteration of my TVD OT3 and by plugging them into this model I will lose one of the relationships. (Unless I pair them with Katherine, decide that they don't care about taboos since they're already breaking actual incest ones and say that all versions of their relationships with each other are romantic/sexual. But then that wouldn't be sedoretu.)
If I move past those characters I could see a Sedoretu with Jeremy and Caroline as Mornings and Tyler and Bonnie as Evenings but while I'm fine with all those various relationships I'm only really interested in Caroline/Bonnie and Caroline/Tyler.
I find the idea of sticking Jenna, Alaric, Isobel and John in sedoretu kind of interesting just because of the almost incestuous interconnectedness in their relationships. Except I'd find it more interesting to consider the romantic angles of all the relationships so it wouldn't work as a sedoretu either. Hmm. There would be a lot of snarking happening in that foursome.
- Chuck is somewhere in the middle. Fitting my OT3 into the sedoretu is alright with me because I don’t ship Casey/Sarah individually but love their partnership. Finding the right fourth was a little harder however. But something I think I could live with is to stick Carina in there. I loved her from her first appearance on the show and immediately shipped her with Sarah while the show made canon Carina/Casey. I like Chuck/Sarah, Chuck/Casey, Casey&Sarah and Sarah/Carina a fair amount and I’m quite fine with Carina/Casey and Carina&Chuck so this works alright.

- Bones works as a sedoretu very well. Making Brennan and Hodgins Evening people and Booth and Angela Morning people makes it work almost perfectly. It get both canon pairings Brennan/Booth and Angela/Hodgins, Angela/Brennan which I like, Brennan & Hodgins friendship which I love, Angela & Booth friendship which I like leaving only Booth/Hodgins as a relationship I’m more neutral about though I'm fine with it.
- Stargate SG-1 I had a bit of a problem with. I just couldn't figure out how to arrange the original team to my satisfaction. Eventually I just skipped them and moved onto SG-1 3.0 with Cam and Vala. I had to leave one of them out but that was actually a very easy decision. I like Cam but I love the other four more so he would out.

Morning Woman: Sam
Evening Man: Teal’c
Evening Woman: Vala
So Daniel/Vala, Daniel/Teal’c, Sam/Teal’c and Sam/Vala relationships with Daniel & Sam and Teal’c & Vala friendship... that works really well for me. That sedoretu I can get behind easily. I love or really like every one of those relationships. Strangely having that laid out like that makes it a bit easier for me with SG-1 1.0 – putting Jack in place of Vala gives Daniel/Jack and Jack/Sam relationships and Jack/Teal’c friendship and I’m okay with that.
- Roswell is another fandom that works pretty fabulously with my chosen pairings.

Morning Woman: Isabelle
Evening Man: Michael
Evening Woman: Tess
That gives me Max/Tess, Isabelle/Michael, Tess/Isabelle and Max/Michael pairings with Tess & Michael and Max & Isabelle friendships. Yeah, this really works for me. These four are actually one of my few foursome poly relationships. I ship the Royal Four like crazy and have almost since I was actually watching the show. In fact I think I may have been shipping it as a sedoretu long before I ever knew what it was. It’s not perfect only because I ship Max/Isabelle more than I do Max/Michael but overall it works really well. I am very OTP about Tess/Max, I ship both Tess/Isabelle and Isabelle/Michael and I’m alright with Max/Michael. I think the Max&Isabelle relationship is very important and I’m fine with it being completely familial and I think Tess&Michael was a relationship that was such a huge missed opportunity in the show that had a lot of potential and I can think of many ways to make a friendship between them work.
- House has only four people I would really be interested in putting into a group relationship and they work okay as a sedoretu but not perfect.

Morning Woman: Cuddy
Evening Man: House
Evening Woman: Amber
The pairings would be Amber/Wilson, House/Cuddy, Wilson/House and Amber/Cuddy with Amber & House and Cuddy & Wilson as friends. I am very happy with the first three relationships, as I ship all three, and I’m perfectly fine with Cuddy and Wilson as just friends. Amber/Cuddy as a pairing I could deal with. The show doesn’t give much to work with and I don’t ship it at all but I love Amber and its femslash so I could work with it. My issue here is the Amber and House friendship. Now I actually love the idea of them as friends. I mean Amber is practically the female version of him and their interactions were some of my favourite parts of the show. But – I also kind of ship them. I especially ship them with Wilson as an OT3. So - not perfect.

I can see a snarky friendship between Jack and Vala but I'm torn about whether they'd band together to torment Daniel or whether Vala would take over for Daniel in driving Jack crazy. I think it would be a toss up. Or possible both would be true.
