Full House Episode 6 Thoughts
Feb. 20th, 2010 11:19 am• On the changing relationship between Young Jae/Ji Eun: My favourite scenes between them started when Young Jae sincerely apologised about losing the ring. I like that he really was sorry. I liked that she didn’t immediately forgive him but that she punished him in a fun way. I loved her using her marker to draw a ring on his finger (so he would never lose it) and then a watch and I loved how that devolved into one of their play fights – her charging him for the ring and watch so him retaliating by drawing a watch on her and charging her, her offering to draw him sunglasses for free, them fighting over control of the marker and her chasing him around the table – it was just all very fun. I love that he allowed her to draw him in the first place instead of pulling away in anger as he would have an episode or two ago and that she let him draw on him too. And I really loved the following scene where he goes to wash his hands and then very carefully washes around his drawn on ring. Awwww!
This episode also gave us a very serious scene between them discussing their relationship. Ji Eun confessing that she never really believed her own repeated threats about never coming back and their agreement that they did make a promise to each other and they should respect that until the day the really do separate. I also liked that they actually seriously fought about Hye Woo even though it didn’t really go anywhere because she’s kind of becoming the elephant in the room. I liked that she told and showed him that she was upset with him losing his ring and his casual attitude about it instead of holding it in. I liked her trying to make his favourite food and that while he was ungrateful at the time later when he saw the instructions on the fridge you could see how he was regretful about it. I loved his smile when he saw her suitcase still in her room. Oh, and I loved that she confessed about making his grandmother faint and that his response is to try and reassure her that it was no big deal. Oh, and I loved that she told him to wear his ring and he went and did it.
• It appears that Hye Woo is definitely getting jealous. Before I thought it was more about possibly not being number one in his life but now I wonder if she doesn’t realise what she actually lost in a more romantic sense? It could still be about her realising that she may not be number one in his life, or that that place is under threat by his marriage but I think it could be read either way at this time. Certainly seeing the ring on his finger really got to her.
• I think the greatest implication of their changed relationship though is the fact that Young Jae actually lies to Ji Eun about who was on the phone and where he’s going. For him to feel the need to lie about going to see Hye Woo it indicates that he realises that it would bother her, and that it bothers him to know that it bothers her. That he feels guilt or at least as if there is something wrong in doing that which is something that was missing at the start of the episode when he makes porridge for Hye Woo and misses the subtext of Ji Eun asking if he’d make it for her if she was sick. This is definitely the beginning of the end for Young Jae/Hye Woo because now Young Jae is considering Ji Eun’s feelings and is thinking of her as someone he has a promise and responsibility too not just an annoying employee.
• Ji Eun’s ‘friends’ piss me off so much. Even after everything they’ve done I still have a hard time believing the gall of them. That they came back to the house after what happened last time, that they broke into the house and then procceded to do the exact same thing, that they actually tried to blackmail Ji Eun and Young Jae. It drives me crazy and that Ji Eun actually apologised to them for Young Jae pisses me off. They are just horrible, horrible friends and I want them gone and out of Ji Eun’s life. She deserves actual good friends. She deserves people who like her for her, like Min Hyuk, and not for what she can do for them. I spent most of their scenes praying that Young Jae or Ji Eun would have them arrested. At this point they have racked up so many charges – fraud, theft, blackmail, breaking & entering, probably more things – that they deserve to pay for something. I guess for now I’ll just have to be content with Ji Eun bringing up the threat of the police and jail, though I wish she looked more like it’s something she would do and less like a wild bluff. Because it shouldn’t be a bluff! Why the hell isn’t Young Jae having them arrested? He cares nothing for them! I did however love Ji Eun’s manner at the end of the confrontation. I especially loved that moment where she goes “Friendship?” and then very visable reigns in her temper by taking a deep breath and letting it out before she responds. I love that she remains calm and cool during the whole thing, I loved her bringing up the threat of the police and I loved how she turned the conversation around on them.
• I continue to like how honest Min Hyuk is with Ji Eun. I loved his “Don’t fake it, you look like an idiot.” when she tried to pretend to be happy. I liked him actively trying to help her be a better writer by taking her people watching and getting her to create stories for her. I was actually as impressed with him as Ji Eun when he created the story for the lady, and was thinking that I could definitely see why he was so successful in his job, and then it turned out that he knew the woman which amused me more than anything, again like Ji Eun. I like their friendship. We did get several moments that felt like hints towards more on his part – him knowing the way she eats, him reaching out to brush sugar off her lips, his bringing up the dinner she owes him and just how much he smiles with and at her. She just really seems to always leave him pleased/amused/happy.
“Get a grip. Think about the person at your side right now. This isn’t the way you should treat Han Ji Eul.” – Min Hyuk. I liked this. I liked that someone has called Young Jae out on his behaviour.
• I like that Ji Eun gets along with both of Young Jae’s parents, that they both like her. I loved that she stood up to his grandmother’s attitude and I’d like to think that it’ll lead her to respecting Ji Eun but I’m actually not sure. The whole scene with Ji Eun carrying the grandmother back into the house was pretty embarrassing however and I couldn’t watch.
