Full House Episodes 7 & 8 Thoughts
Feb. 20th, 2010 01:24 pmEpisode 7
• All of Ji Eun’s scenes with her in-laws were great – the way mother kept putting her arms around Ji Eun in the art gallery, the way grandmother introduced her as “our daughter” and Ji Eun’s very happy smile about it. I liked the dinner (“Because of her I can’t kill that jerk-face Dong Wook!” – heee, nice to have further reason for her patience with him) which she certainly livens up and how excited/pleased his parents were with the idea of her sleeping over.
• I just find that last part really sweet and moving. The way Young Jae explained to Hye Woo that “Ji Eun was playing around.” with a bit of a smile and so casually was nice. And then in the same conversation there was this – “She’s okay even though sometimes she makes clumsy mistakes. (smiles) She wouldn’t be Han Ji Eun otherwise.” I loved that smile. I love that despite his grumblings he likes her just the way she is. I liked that he doesn’t like lying to her.
• Young Jae’s continuing inability to tell Ji Eun how he really feels – see him wanting to be home and instead telling her he wants her there to clean and cook, and the way he keeps trying to make her angry because he hates her new rules and schedule. It even seemed to infect Ji Eun during the scene at the car when she asked him not to go and turned it into dinner.
• Ji Eun making him sing her song to her and that he did it, and I liked her telling him to buy her flowers from now on when she’s sad.
• I liked him looking for her in the audience and being disappointed that she wasn’t there.
• I loved this – “Why would he tell her not to cry when it’s okay to cry?” – and that he thinks crying is okay.
• The Ji Eun/Hye Woo scene was unexpected but I really liked that too and Ji Eun telling her to leave him alone. “Shall we wager on it? Who wins his affections first?” – so from this are we supposed to assume that Hye Woo likes him now? Is it partially in reaction to seeing Ji Eun with Min Hyuk?
• Dong Wook and Hee Jin bothered me less this episode, plus I’ve actually learnt their names. But I was still happy that Ji Eun wasn’t at all welcoming or buddy-buddy with either of them. And I really liked Young Jae confronting him – “It seem like you take advantage of Ji Eun’s good nature.” – I am so pleased about him calling Dong Wook on his behaviour and being so protective of Ji Eun.
• I was actually expecting Min Hyuk to show up to give her a ride and for the two of them to go off to dinner together, or something.
• “When someone protects someone else that means he likes that person right? (pause) You can protect Kang Hye Woo. Because I will be protecting you. I, Young Jae, think I’m falling in love with you.” – Ji Eun. Wow. Talk about being brave! Wow. She has so much courage. I wasn’t expecting that.
Episode 8
• It felt a little cheap the why they dealt with Ji Eun’s confession of love by having Young Jae wave it off like it was a joke. I did like how he then went on to insult her because that is just so him. And then the next morning teasing her by calling her honey and saying he loved her – poor Ji Eun.
• I liked Young Jae admitting that when she’s gone the house seems ‘dark and lonely’.
• I loved the interview and especially how well Ji Eun handled the questions about Hye Woo. She handled it like a pro. I liked how sincere she was that it was great that Young Jae had such a great friend. That whole scene was one of my favourites of the series (it’s in part 2).
• Young Jae desperately trying to keep Ji Eun away from Min Hyuk – first by pretending that grandmother was sick then by making an impossibly long list of chores – was amusing. I loved his huge pleased grin after he picked her up from Min Hyuk.
• For all that we got lots of great Young Jae/Ji Eun scenes the big emotional one was with Hye Woo to whom he admitted that when she’s in pain so too is he.
• I was actually enjoying watching Dong Wook and Hee Jin this episode probably because they were actually being friends. I liked Dong warning off Hye Woo because Ji Eun ‘is my best friend’ and I really liked Hee Jin calling Ji Eun and telling her about the rumours of an affair going around and that she should be careful. That is something a good friend would do. Although – “I know you’re being discreet about the other guy.” – made me shake my head because she made up something between them herself. That said her reactions at the movie theatre were great and I loved Ji Eun’s “Don’t overreact!”
• I love that both of them are taking different sides – Dong feels some loyalty to Young Jae and Hee Jin doesn’t like him – and both want Ji Eun to be with the one who’s best for her. I like Dong Wook’s “I’m not saying this as a friend of Ji Eun but don’t lose her and regret it later. Treat her well while you have her.”
• This episode moved the possibility of Min Hyuk/Ji Eun forward at full speed ahead. I really loved their scenes. I love how whenever he thinks of her or spends time with her he is always smiling – which he even says to her. My feelings for him have been all over the place – I liked him at first, then I was liking him a lot less, and then slowly I have been liking him more and more and I really loved him in this episode with Ji Eun.
I liked the movie date and this – “I do like you. You may not know this but I am a very busy man. Yet I always make time for you. That’s not an easy thing for me to do.” (honesty is so refreshing!). I loved that he wanted to spend his birthday with her and this – “That’s okay because you’re the gift. Because it is my birthday I wanted to treat myself. Thinking of that, I thought of you. When you’re around I’m really happy.” – was amazing. How could she not fall for him a little bit after that? I did.
