The Amazing Race 17x12 Thoughts
Dec. 13th, 2010 10:28 pm"Hi. I'm sorry. I'm in a race."
I was so happy that Nat/Kat won. I’m happy that my favourite team won. When they started the race in the lead it reminded me about a comment I read a couple episodes back about how when Nat/Kat manage to get a lead early on they usually keep it and it made me really hopeful that they would do so this leg. They made me nervous at the beginning – they got to the rope-swing earlier than the other teams but then they were just suddenly all there together; Nat messing up on the roses at the roadblock made me go ‘arg’; and then they kept going from taxi to taxi asking for a phone/if someone had a PDA. I was just waiting for someone to catch up to them/pass them. The final race for the pit stop between Nat/Kat and Brook/Claire though it clearly wasn’t as close as TPTB tried to make it appear made me realise how much I really wanted Nat/Kat to win. I would have been happy if Brook/Claire had won but not as happy.
Brook/Claire ran a pretty solid race actually and they did exactly what I would have done after the roadblock – go to a hotel (or internet cafe).
Thomas/Jill’s cab misadventure was partially their own fault as Thomas getting increasingly snide and bitchy certainly didn’t help their situation and I’m surprised that they didn’t think of having him drop them at a hotel/cafe. He did seem to be a ridiculously bad cabbie – how the hell did he not understand what they meant by internet? – and it sucked for them but I think they got too worked up and just weren’t thinking. I am really surprised that they failed so bad in this last leg and were so much not in the competition that they didn’t even get shown doing the final ‘pick the greeter’ task.
This episode didn’t really feel like it had anything tough as far as tasks went, plus it felt strangely shorter than usual and I don’t know... simple even. I thought about it and realised that there was no detour. I suppose the final ‘pick the greeters’ task was in place of the detour but it wasn’t really a detour and there should have been one. The rope swing thing they did could be scary but was also easy and quick. The Rose Bowl roadblock was also pretty easy.
Also at the rope swing it appears that a team could only go as soon as the team before them was down and I think it’s this that really destroyed Brook/Claire’s chance more than any mistakes or slowness on their part. I think if they hadn’t been forced into third place via that task the race for first place would have been a lot closer. That was just a badly done task. They should have sent the teams each to their own crane.
