Episode 9

• This show did something I was not expecting at all, something so awesome that when it happens it always takes me by surprise and it actually made me bounce a little with glee. It happened during the Hye Woo/Min Hyuk scene which stated off great anyways with her telling him that he talks and she always listens but this time she would be the one talking continued through more greatness with her rejecting his opinion on her feelings for him and claiming her feelings as truth and then went into awesome with this:

“But I think I should stop this now. Even though I like you a lot. But I kind of respect myself too. I want to take care of myself too.” ♥ YES!! I am seriously almost speechless with joy here. They actually had a woman who is so in love with a guy but rejected over and over decide to back away from pursuing him not because she fell out of love or found someone else but because she has more respect for herself then to keep doing it and she chooses to care for herself too! I... I am just so happy with that, and that in itself is kind of sad and says horrible things about my culture, but there it is. I wasn’t expecting it and it was awesome. Also it reminded me of Martha leaving the Doctor for basically the same reason – self-respect – at the end of season three. Just... so happy

• I loved the end of the episode though I do wish that it hadn’t been so much Min Hyuk saying he was ‘going to take Ji Eun away from Young Jae’ but rather that Min Hyuk was ‘going to pursue Ji Eun now and try and earn her love’ – thus making it about her and not about Young Jae, which is how the former way sounds even if I know that’s not how it’s meant. In any case at the beginning of the episode when Min Hyuk told Young Jae not to underestimate him I was immediately all for the show to go in the direction of Young Jae having to fight, seriously fight, Min Hyuk for Ji Eun’s love. I am looking forward to the next episode.

“I can make a lot of jokes when you’re bored or when you’re in pain or lonely, you can call me then. I’ll be your friend. From now on I’ll like you.” So this episode did what I was hoping the show wouldn’t do – make me ship Ji Eun with the ‘rival’ character, the one I know she won’t end up with. Sigh. It’s just that he is so great to and with her, seems to sincerely really like her for herself, they have so much fun together, he helps her to learn, encourages her, makes time for her always, when she called for help he went to help immediately... he really would be great for her. In fact he’s kind of perfect for and he should be the one she picks. I find myself really hoping that the next kdrama I watch lets the good guy get the girl instead of her uncovering the soft/loving side of the standoffish/cold/angry guy.

Min Hyuk knowing now about at least the existence of the contract could be very interesting. The fact that he actually got a POV sequence, several times, this episode seems to indicate some really interesting things ahead for him. I liked his first scene with Young Jae and I loved his line – “I don’t go around deceiving people.” – which, yes! That’s exactly it and it’s something that put me a little off him at first. He’s blunt and says what he thinks and he’s not passive-aggressive.

• I also really loved the Young Jae/Hye Woo bar scene which I felt was a lot nicer to her character then previous scenes/episodes. This wasn’t about her always having him at her beck and call this was about her being in pain and needing her best friend with her. I understood it and can see why he stayed with her. It was a very nice seen.

- “If I go in I will have to be alone again.” This made me actually think of all of them because in ways and at times it’s applied to all of them. Hell, it applied to all of them in this episode alone! Except perhaps Hye Woo herself. We saw Min Hyuk alone in his apartment, Ji Eun waiting alone in the house for Young Jae, and then Young Jae waiting alone in the house for Ji Eun. They are all alone.

• Young Jae is so unbelievably childish. His over the top ‘marking his territory’ at the lunch was ridiculous and I’m surprised that Ji Eun didn’t smack him. Especially afterwards when he said straight out what he was doing – “Now he’ll know whose rice bowl is whose.” Yeesh. Telling Min Hyuk that she’s pregnant was definitely too far. Oy. I was surprised with how easily he mentioned ‘their’ children though. I was also surprised that during Ji Eun and Min Hyuk’s end of the episode talk that she didn’t tell him that she wasn’t pregnant. Does he believe that she is or does he think Young Jae was lying?

• I was surprised and pleased that Young Jae took back one of his insults (dummy) which felt like a start but then he goes and stands her up for dinner and then stays out all night and all without calling Ji Eun once. Watching her sit there in the restaurant waiting was horrible. He can be such an inconsiderate asshole. The fact that he was being there and so wonderful to Hye Woo while being so horrible to Ji Eun just makes it worse. And continuing to feel horrible for Ji Eun their confrontation the next morning made me want to hug her so bad, even though I was feeling a little sorry for him too. She said that she wasn’t waiting for him anymore but I’ll believe it when I see it.

“You’re nothing to me! Do you know that?” – Young Jae
“(tearfully) Yes, I know. I know I’m nothing to you. From now on you too are nothing to me.” – Ji Eun

• I’m continuing to love JI Eun’s growing closeness to her in-laws. I loved grandmother’s huge grin when she heard it was Ji Eun on the phone, and her desire to teach Ji Eun. I loved how she pretended to be upset to get Ji Eun to sing/dance for her and how it backfired when Ji Eun finally lost it and began to cry about how grandmother hates her. I still don’t know if she was playing grandmother or not. I loved mother turning away to hide her smile when they caught grandmother singing.
