Several things I really liked, a couple things I really didn't
• I loved that final Emily/David confrontation where the truth finally comes out. I liked how it ended up playing out - with Emily's emotions getting the better of her. I love that it's learning that David had pictures of 'her', was watching her, and never tried to get in contact that pushed her over the edge. "You could have come for me!" Oh, Emily. The whole thing was perfect.
• The fact that it was then interrupted by Victoria being electrocuted was ridiculous and freaking annoying. What was that?! I want to see how that scene would play out! This is one of the most important scenes of the series and they interrupted it for that? WTF? If they didn't know how to end that exchange they should have come up with a better reason to end it. Also how completely random was that? Why was Victoria leaving anyway? I can't believe that she'd just walk away just when it looked like things might be blowing up in her face.
• "Ems, good luck. I really hope you find the answers we're looking for." I love that Nolan said 'we'. 'We' makes them a team, makes what Emily's doing not just Emily's quest that he's supporting but something that they're doing together, that's important to both of them. All episode he was his usual completely supportive self, even though he has more reason than ever to be mad at her, and it was great. But seriously I want more supportive Emily now. I realise that she's been distracted but it's not really an excuse. He needs her, she should be there like he is always there for her.
• The Daniel/Emily scene was actually really great. In fact, minus the Emily/David end scene, it was probably my favourite scene. Season 2 made me stop shipping them, to in fact dislike them as a couple and Daniel himself quite a bit, but since I've started watching again I've actually enjoyed pretty much every scene they've had together.
The elevator scene was so - amiable on his part. He was being all pleasant with her! It was kind of weird. He was so calm during the entire scene. He even seemed to be enjoying it which I guess having the upper hand could do. But it was more than just that. For example, his smile when talking about the wine auction was fond. He was happy remembering it and how he thought she was getting him drunk so she could have her way with him. That's a good memory.
Also there's his reaction to Emily breaking out of the elevator - he was amused. After she leaves, his bemused look shifts to an amused smile. I think he was actually charmed by her.
I seriously wonder if the show is heading back in a Daniel/Emily direction? Because - between Daniel secretly looking at pictures of them together (that gave me flashbacks), to his behaviour with her in the elevator to what looks like a probable break up with Margaux - that is the impression I came away with. Certainly learning the truth that Emily is actually Amanda Clarke has to put a whole new spin on everything for him. It suddenly gives Emily reasonable-ish motive for her actions. But is it really enough to change his feelings for her that much? Or is it that a part of him has never gotten over her even as he hated her? Not gonna lie that kind of makes me ship them again.
• "Maybe there was a time when the feeling were real. When we could have had a real relationship but the moment you aligned yourself with your father it was all over." - Emily Of course while Daniel may have softened on Emily and might currently be remembering his love for her, Emily's feelings for Daniel as - not so much. I actually do think that there were real feelings for him in season one. But as she says - as soon as she learned that he choose his father's side that was all over. I don't know if I could buy her returning his feelings though at this point I actually wouldn't mind if the show worked it's way back to them. If they took enough time to build Emily's feelings. Daniel confronted her in order to get her promise to keep him out of the battlefield but that's unlikely to happen. Perhaps this time he'll take Emily's side or otherwise prove to be a great help to her?
• "I thought about crushing you." LOL, Daniel, in your dreams. Even knowing her biggest secret Daniel couldn't even hope to crush her.
• The strip club scene was really dumb. I can't believe that David actually believed what Crysal said. He keeps switching between really naive/uncertain and crazy/clever so which is it? In this case everything Crystal said was so flipping obviously a lie that it was almost painful to listen to. How did he not see through her? She ended up talking more about Victoria than Amanda! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he knew Victoria was behind it, which is why he left without asking more about Amanda, and is playing Victoria right now.
• But that scene was pretty dumb for other reasons like: why did he go in looking for Crystal specifically? Where did he get her name from and how did Victoria know she'd be the one he'd talk to? I can fanwank that away but it still annoys me. Why didn't he speak with more people who knew Amanda? For the matter why the hell wasn't he asking more questions about Amanda's life and who she was as a person? His trip seemed entirely about learning more about Victoria than any desire to learn anything about Amanda and as soon as he confirmed Victoria was a good person he left without a backward glance. Just - wha?
• How could David have all those photos of Amanda's life and never once get Emily in a shot? Frankly it'd probably take work to cut Emily out of Amanda's life. Honestly I'm finding a lot of how David is shown dealing with the Amanda situation head-scratching and thus badly done. Why the hell hasn't he sat Charlotte or Jack down to talk in depth about Amanda's life? It should have been one of the first things he did. He should have learned about Emily a long time ago and done the same with her. Why isn't he trying to spend any time with his grandson and all he has left of Amanda? None of it makes sense. Also his lack of time spent with Charlotte. You know, the daughter he never got to meet. I think it's been a mistake to spend most of David's screen time about his relationship with Victoria over his relationship with his daughters.
• For some reason I thought Louise's interview spilled the beans about the Daniel hook-up. I guess that explains why Margaux was so inexplicably friendly with Louise. I loved that she figured out the truth on her own and that her reaction was to throw her drink in Daniel's face and storm out.
• Louise is still entertaining me. The Margaux stuff was definitely crazy but in the over the top soapy way that made it very enjoyable. I loved her creepy little Victoria collage. But the best stuff was her scene with Nolan. That is not a combination I was expecting and I'm torn between wanting them to interact more (they were pretty fun together, she actually gave him some great advice) and wanting her to stay far away from him (he's having a hard enough time right now he doesn't need anything added on, plus I think it should be a rule that you only get one crazy, murderous person in your life and Nolan's already had his quota filled, several times over.)
"Well then buck up. Because at the end of the day you can have something that all these other people can't. ... Anything you want." See? That is actually something that is really great for Nolan to remember.
• Emily setting up Charlotte's kidnapper as a potential Conrad murderer was brilliant.
