What They Become

I was really enjoying this episode right up until the end and then I was really pissed off.

They killed Trip! Son of a fucking bitch. Goddamn. I'm actually really angry about this. He's basically a ray of sunshine that brings joy and competence to everything he does. He is amazing and funny and sweet and lovely and delightful. I wasn't even afraid for him going into this episode! Even at the end there before he turned up in the chamber I wasn't worried about him. He has so much potential. They've built up so much interesting possibilities with him - his friendships with Skye and Jemma and Mack, the fact that he's a freaking Legacy! But I'll be honest I'm mostly super angry because they killed off one of my favouite characters. Skye, Jemma and Trip are my favourites, my 'must not die' list and usually when he's onscreen he's number one. So, yeah, I'm angry.

It's a good thing that the show is on hiatus because I'm going to need a break to deal with this. I have a feeling that I'm going to choose to do this with denial. Sure, he turned to stone and then crumbled into dust but THAT DOESN'T PROVE ANYTHING! He could have been transformed. There's nothing to say that he couldn't be an Inhuman as well. 'Special', whatever they're calling them. So his ability manifested in him disappear for awhile. Or Raina will get the ability to bring back the dead. I don't care. He's not dead. lalalalala. This is part of the MCU/marvelverse based on comics and superheroes. No one is dead dead. sob

Quick(-ish) rundown of the episode:

+ May's trick with the Bus was great. I loved Trip being all in awe of her.

+ Sam's mention of Dum Dum Dugan when talking to Trip - that he'd be proud - is that a hint that he Trip's grandfather not Gabe?

+ The FitzSimmons scene was nice. I loved that he got snappish but after she explained her reasoning he acknowledged she had a good point and apologized. I liked that they were back to working well together.

+ I liked how concerned everyone was about Mack.

+ "Skye can take care of herself. You've transformed her into an agent who is smart and tough and capable." - Coulson.

+ I really enjoyed the Skye/Cal scenes. They were rather creepy but also pretty great. The scene where he croons to her softly and gently rubs her shoulder while she tried to hold in her tears was excellent.

+ "Best day ever." - Calvin. Heh.

+ I loved Sam messing with Trip about the brothers being robots. That was the best.

+ "Hey, don't get me wrong. I love having the company." - Trip. I loved her smile. I love that the show is maybe going back to them flirting.

+ Ward amused me when he was all "I don't mind seeing (your carnage)" in a bid to get Calvin to set him free.

+ Cal's reaction when Coulson shot Whitehall was great.

+ "Never turn your back on the enemy. You taught me that." - Skye. Wow. I never expected Skye to actually shoot Ward! And pretty coldly at that! It was actually kind of awesome. I've been enjoying Ward but he is creepily obsessed with Skye and I love that she is not softening towards him at all. He's basically stalking her so this was pretty satisfying, tbh. I also loved how she brought it around to his training. Of course she didn't finish the job. I wonder what Ward's next more is going to be with Skye? Is he still going to continue to be obsessed or is he going to be pissed about it?

+ That moment after Skye saves Coulson from her dad and she's in tears and apologising for not being able to kill him and promising to make it right was so sad. Oh, Skye. Really great acting from CB.

+ Huh to Ward and Agent 33 teaming up. Poor Agent 33. I hope her brainwashing wears off eventually. But as is they could be interesting.

+ Trip is seriously the best. I love that as soon as he learned that Skye and Coulson were still in the tunnels he immediately went back down, sans protective gear and then managed to run and stop all four explosives before they went off. Awesome.

+ Wait, how the hell did Trip get into the chamber past Coulson and Mack? Is there a back way in? How did he even get back there from running around turning off all the bombs - how would he have had the time?

+ Looks like Mack is going to survive which is nice. I was really hoping after the last episode he would. [Though it's rather bittersweet at the moment and I would trade him for Trip in a second.]

+ I'm very glad Raina survived the episode. I loved that little moment where she confessed to being a little nervous. I can't wait to see what she becomes.

+ All the Trip/Skye stuff in the chamber was amazing and just made me ship them more than ever. I loved him kicking the crystal in an attempt to help Skye (and the way he kind of braces himself before he does it). Then there was his reaction when he saw her encased in stone and apparently dead - "No. NOOOOOO!", the first denial, the second grief - and it was not the reaction to the death of a colleague or even a friend. There was so much emotion in it. And then as he is encased in stone he looks at Skye. Ugh. I love these two so much. And then the grief on her face when she saw him... sniff. Fuck you, show.

+ Skye's 'evolution' was great looking. I loved the shot of her floating in the air, the rocks around her, her hair blowing.
