Nikita 1x11 ‘All the Way’

Wow, this episode. I really enjoyed it. This felt very much like a season finale because it had all the ingredients of one – Alex facing her kill mission to become an agent, Nikita captured, Nikita’s chat program discovered, a main character dies – and it makes me wonder what they could have in store for the actual finale.

• I thought for sure they’d keep Alex in training for the entire season and it would be the season final when she’d move to active agent. This show is moving so fast.

• All the Alex stuff was excellent and that final scene with Thom was so sad. Poor Alex. I loved her speech to Percy about being ‘more sure’ of her mission than ever. Alex was very competent and excellent this episode.

• Nikita was awesome. Just - ♥

• My favourite scene was Nikita appearing in the main room, taking on a room full of recruits and totally kicking their asses. I just loved that so much. And it makes me really want their POV on her, and a chance to hear them gossip about her more than ever.

• Of course, the fact that she fought for a minute before anyone with guns showed up – in the main freaking room – kind of highlighted how Division is kind of useless/ineffectual when compared to Section One.

• I liked the Nikita/Alex flashbacks and want more. It’s nice seeing them interact in person and with Alex now an agent apparently we’ll be seeing a lot more of that in the second half of the season.

• Michael is... interesting. I think he has to be a little suspicious about how Alex ‘caught’ Nikita. Also they were once again showing a bit of Michael/Alex UST. I was surprised that we didn’t get more from Michael about Nikita being captured – no angsty looks, no brooding, no watching her on a monitor or even sharing a scene with her – and so now I’m wondering if he really could blame her for betraying him to the authorities that one time? ... Nah.

• I have a feeling that Jaden is not going to buy the whole ‘Thom was a mole’ story and Alex killing him and making agent (before Jaden) is going to make Jaden even more firmly her enemy. Actually, how long has Alex been in Division anyway?

• I found the Nikita/Amanda interaction a little... disappointing, I guess. I don’t know what I was expecting but it was something more than we got.

Fringe 3x09 ‘Marionette’

This was a painful episode. I kept wanting to go and hug Olivia - pretty much throughout the entire episode.

• I really loved this Olivia/Broyles scene. I like that we got her calling him a friend and remembering him though I still wish we’d gotten a scene where she saw his body. I also like that Broyles knew she was talking about the other him and then asked about him. I like what Olivia said about him: “He wasn’t that unlike you. He was honourable, committed, he feared for his family, for their future.” Poor Broyles. Everything he probably wanted but never got. Also Olivia looked so very pretty in this scene.

“She’s... she’s much quicker with a smile. And less... I don’t know, less intense maybe. She said that when she was over there, when she saw her other life it made her want to change. To be happier. And I believed her because it made sense.” – Peter. I guess I can see that except Olivia really wasn’t over there that long. How much of her other life could she really have seen? Plus the change was fairly significant and fairly quick. Can people really change that quickly? Anyway, Olivia trying to reassure Peter with “It’s okay. I’m here now.” with a comforting smile made me wince and feel so bad for both of them but especially Olivia because she was trying so hard to be supportive and understanding and had no idea what was coming. Her face when she realised just what he was saying... ouch.

• Olivia’s first question after the truth: “Does everyone know?” Oh, I just want to hug her. So now not only is it about the hurt and betrayal she feels because of the relationship, but now there is also the humiliation of everyone knowing.

“Do you think possibly they replaced her with a robot?” – Walter. LOL Thanks, Walter, I needed that laugh. It’s the fact that he’s serious that makes it so funny.

• I loved the Astrid/Olivia scene and I really hope that we get more of them. Maybe we could have Astrid be the one to help Olivia readjust.

• The case was pretty creepy and sad. When our ‘bad guy’ was moving her body around in a dance like she was a live marionette – eek.

• The final scene... just ouch. I felt so sorry for both of them – Olivia more but this scene was the most I’d felt for Peter this episode. Peter’s quiet, and even slightly broken, “Sorry” after Olivia left really got to me. Olivia finally breaking down and saying everything that she’d been feeling... It’s a pretty horrible situation but this is the reaction that makes the most sense to me. It was completely about emotion and I don’t know how she couldn’t feel betrayed, and how she couldn’t wonder “how couldn’t you have known it wasn’t me”. I also agree with her on a logical level too. It was two months, they know her well, Red Olivia made mistakes both personal and just general world knowledge, her entire demeanour was different and Peter (and everyone) knew not only about parallel words but that Olivia had a double. Why wouldn’t he have tried something like the Greek phrase before? So I actually think that Olivia is right in her response on both the emotional level and the logical one. I’m glad that the show is going in this direction, and dealing with what happened realistically.
