Spacewalker
Wow. Just - wow. That ending.
• Starting at the end seems best. It was so good, so painful, so well done. I loved everything about it.
1) They killed Finn! I never actually thought they would. Sure they kill people all the time but not one of the main few. I mean even Jaha survived. Wells died but that was in the third episode. Since then it's only been supporting or background characters.
2) And then they had Clarke do it. My heart. That was a beautiful scene. "Thank you, princess." Perfect. I honestly got a little choked up. Oh, Finn. Oh, Clarke.
3) My love for Clarke is overwhelming. I loved the decision she made in that moment. Raven would have killed Lexa, damn the consequences. But Clarke is a leader. She knew there was no getting Finn out of there alive. She knew her mom was right about that. Killing Lexa wouldn't have done anything except get her people killed. The amount of inner strength it must have taken to go to Finn planning to kill him and then to do it, ugh. This is going to haunt her for so long.
4) Clarke trying to trade herself for Finn because she'd killed many more was lovely. I wish Lexa had said something about Clarke's kills being in battle/war while Finn murdered innocents. I also loved her pushing up against Indira's spear and refusing to back down.
5) I definitely noticed that while Clarke told Finn that she loved him she didn't forgive him. I loved that.
6) God, Raven. Her scream of anguish was horrible. Finn was her only family and this is going to completely devastate her. I hope this leads to her turning to the other 100 (and Wick/Abby) instead of closing herself off.
7) I'm thinking that this is the moment that's finally going to force the adults to realise just how much 'the kids' are not kids anymore. The look on Abby and Kane's faces... yikes. I really wish that Jaha had been there.
8) Meanwhile I'm thinking that this is only going to add to the Grounder's respect for Clarke. Though Indira is probably going to continue to be pissed. I am really curious to see just how everyone reacts to this - the Grounders and the Ark survivors - and how they're going to react to Clarke now.
• My second favourite scene of the episode was the short one between Clarke and Abby:
Clarke: We have to prove that we're not afraid.
Abby: What if I am?
Clarke: Fake it.
♥ The shared look and the handclasp and Clarke offering her mother support and advice. Love it.
• I love so much Clarke, Raven and Bellamy working together to protect and save Finn. My favourite moment was at the end when after pleading with the adults yields nothing they share a look that says so much. They know they will need to do something and communicate that without a word. I loved Raven giving Clarke the knife. I loved their trust in her. I loved how much of a team the three of them were. OT3 forever.
- Bellamy holding to a grief-stricken and wailing Raven after Finn's death.
- Bellamy and Raven waiting outside the council chambers and confronting Abby about what they were going to do with Finn.
- Clarke reassuring Raven that nothing would happen to Finn.
- Raven gently looking after a knocked out Clarke.
- Now I'm super worried that Raven isn't going to forgive Clarke for what she did and it's going to cause a rift between them. Raven will definitely have reason to be angry and even not to forgive Clarke though I think she will eventually understand why Clarke did what she did. I just don't want them to be enemies or take the entire second half of the season to make up.
- There was no real Bellamy/Finn talk like I wanted, for which I'm super sad about, but I did love Bellamy's determination to save Finn and all the eye-contact between them. I loved Bellamy punching out the one guy who tried to attack Finn.
• The flashbacks were great. I love the 'twist' that it was Raven who was the spacewalker not Finn and why. Finn giving Raven a spacewalk, her unattainable dream, and that's why he was sentenced was lovely. I loved his expression when Raven first went out. I felt bad for him quite a bit and it's because of that. And because they showed him having remorse, had him refusing to sacrifice others for his safety, had him giving himself up to save the others, had him apologise to Raven for hurting her. Almost as important they gave him a flashback with Raven where we got to see him being caring and self-sacrificing. I knew the show could 'save' Finn if they wanted and this episode was actually a really great start to that if they'd let him live.
• The main thing I disliked about the ep was the constant refrain that Finn did what he did for Clarke. Clarke tries to brush what happened aside because he was only trying to help those taken. Finn himself keeps saying he did it for Clarke. But that's just complete nonsense in every way. Finn was out there searching for Clarke, yes. He went to that village specifically to find her, yes. But him killing a bunch of unarmed villagers wasn't about him helping anyone. If she had been captured and he'd taken them hostage to get her back and killed them when their leaders refused I can see saying that. But neither Clarke nor anyone else was in that village and once Finn determined that they should have left. Also Finn being out there looking for Clarke is also not a reason. 1) Clarke didn't go for a stroll or get lost or runaway - she was captured by enemies and held prisoner. 2) Finn's choices are his own.
• Why the hell did Abby ask and Clarke tell her how the negotiations went in front of everyone? That was really dumb.
• "He should have floated a long time ago." I liked this. These people grew up in a world where any transgression was met with death. This episode talked a lot around the Grounder's being violent and barbaric in the methods/ways but this was a nice reminder that the Ark wasn't innocent and peaceful either. And though Abby (and Kane) want to lead their people on a better path their past is a part of them.
• Murphy/Finn was great. Murphy trying to make Finn feel better at the beginning was great and I loved that he snuck out to the dropship to help Finn too. I loved Finn stepping between him and Raven. I wish we'd actually gotten more of substance between them and seen a reaction shot from Murphy when Finn died.
• I liked the Clarke/Murphy scene at the beginning. I like her misdirected anger. She's angry and afraid and so she puts it on Murphy, who she already has a grudge against, by trying to blame the massacre on him. She's wrong of course but it's understandable. I love her but she's not perfect and when they show her messing up or being wrong it only makes her a better character. I also loved her trying to reason with Raven later and telling her "Like it or not he's one of us."
• "That was another time and another Chancellor." - Abby. Ouch. 2 Abby/0 Jaha.
Wow. Just - wow. That ending.
