I've been marathoning through season one this week and I am really enjoying the show. The first ten minutes almost put me off - I found Reese's voice and way of speaking really grating and I wasn't very impressed with Caviezal's acting - but I kept watching and he grew on me. In fact I really love him now and Caviezal's acting/speaking choices seem perfect for the character. I am marginally spoiled just from fandom osmosis, mostly casting spoilers, but it hasn't been affecting my interest in the show. I like all the characters which is nice.

2x01 'The Contingency'

I loved it and found it really fun.

+ This was a great Reese/Finch episode even though they didn't interact once. Reese's frantic determination to find Finch was great. I loved him negotiating with the Machine, including basically blackmailing it, and this: "Find a way to bend your rules. Because he's my friend. He saved my life. Understand? And I won't do this without him." I also love that Reese is Finch's contingency plan.

+ Fusco being all jealousy about Carter being the favourite cop was wonderful. I loved him sulking because she got to investigate a murder and he was assigned babysitting duty. I loved him being all surprised and grouchy (even though he tried to cover it up) over Carter calling Reese 'John'. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't get all sulky at Carter getting to go on a trip to Texas instead of him. I love the whole dynamic between the three of them. I want all the scenes between them. One of my favourite parts of 1x23 was Carter and Fusco finally learning the truth and the subsequent awkward car ride with Reese (and Reese being a complete troll).

+ The entirety of the Brotherhood/Reese[/Fusco/Leon] warehouse scene was delightful. I loved everything about it.

- "I just want to find my friend. See I don't have many friends. Just the one in fact. [Lionel makes 'excuse me' noise] Okay, maybe two." - Reese. 1) LMAO. 2) Hey, what about Carter? She is totally his friend an he knows it.

- Reese commanding the dog in dutch and insulting the brotherhood guys was great and I loved that he rescued the dog from them and kept him and named him Bear, yay.

- Reese teasing Fusco - "You can even leave the gag on." (heeeeee) and "Sure thing Lionel. Like a gag order." Now I want Reese to randomly throw little 'gag' jokes into their conversations. I never would have thought I'd say this when I first started watching but I love Reese's sense of humour (and that he has one!)

Also see:

"I never thought I'd see you almost lose." - Fusco
"I wasn't losing, I was just resting." - Reese.
Heh. See?

+ Have to agree with Fusco - it was weird to see Reese losing. He's like a terminator. But I actually really liked that. I love Reese's effortless competency and casual badassery but sometimes it's good to show him running up against someone who can get the better of him (like Elias).

+ Carter saving Reese with one of the weapons she borrowed from Reese was great.

+ Amy Acker is looking really amazing.

+ I'm really enjoying Root thus far. I love how smart she is, not only intelligence-wise and with technology but also her plotting and planning.

2x02 'Bad Code'

Also great.

+ I love how competent everyone one on this show is. Reese - basically everything. Finch - figuring out how to send Reese a code on the phone. Carter - asking the right questions, figuring out the junk mail and solving Hanna's murder. Fusco - outsmarting Hersh and getting to Alicia's room first.

+ Okay, I love Root. She's fabulous. And clever and fun. And so competent. I love it. I'm so glad that she's going to be sticking around. Her setting the scene so that Weeks would think he'd gotten her was so well done. I love how daring she is; how she takes honest risks even with her life in order to reach her goal. I liked her thanking Reese for solving Hanna's murder and making it possible for her to have a proper burial.

I kind of love that Root used the torture that Weeks authorized the use of on other people on him and that torture wasn't her actual plan for getting information from him (because she knows it doesn't work.) I also loved how she dealt with Trent Russell (two birds with one stone - revenge/justice and a bunch of money, plus she got a hidden predator off the streets) and Barbara. Sending a book every year on Hanna's disappearance to remind her was inspired and totally deserved. I find it interesting that despite how Root has no problem killing people she never set Barbara up to die even though she easily could have (or done it herself). Instead she just reminded Barbara of her guilt and silence every year.

+ "I'd recognize your code anywhere. It's so - elegant." - Root. I'm also really enjoying the Root/Finch relationship. Root is basically a mirror to Finch. I love how equal they are. I love how much she respects him/his work. I'll be honest, I'm a little sad that Finch didn't take her up on her offer to be partners. I even felt sorry for her when he rejected her offer. Sure, she's a little psycho but that just makes her more endearing! She just needs a conscious - like a Finch to her Reese (except vastly more so].

+ A couple of nice scenes with Carter and Fusco being friends. I loved them heading out for drinks at the end.
