Person of Interest 2x16 - 2x18 Thoughts

I loved it.
• Shaw is awesome. I love her. I love her competence. [Though I admit I finished the episode really wanting to see a Reese vs Shaw showdown.] I like that she doesn’t just kill anyone. She lets those innocent go – the cop, Louis.
• I loved getting to see the world through the eyes of one of the Numbers. I liked that they introduced her by making her the protagonist of the episode and how much of her life mirrors Reese and Finch. Actually it’s really interesting that the way the government is using the numbers resembles Finch and Reese’s operation – what with them giving the numbers to a two-person team made up of one intelligence person and one killer/soldier.
• It was really neat to see Team Machine from a different POV. The way Reese is randomly there, being all cryptic, while random goons are lying around groaning in pain. Finch as someone even more mysterious than usual. I loved the montage of Carter and Fusco with Leon (!) dealing with Shaw’s death and picking up her ‘body’ – and then delivering it to Finch/Reese. That was great.
• They’ve only had one scene but I already ship Shaw/Root.
“One of the things I left out of my file… I kind of enjoy this sort of thing.” – Shaw
“I’m so glad you said that. I do too.” – Root
• Reese’s response to Shaw telling him to give her one good reason not to shoot him: ”I don’t know. Because I’m a really nice person.” LOL.
• The Finch/Shaw scene was great. I loved the way Reese just stood silent in the background like Finch’s bodyguard.
2x17 ‘Proteus’
Meh.
• The best scene was the one between Finch and ‘Fahey’. Particularly, this moment gave me chills - ”You have no idea. You’re an amateur at this.” Oooo. I just got Ben flashbacks. … I liked it. Menacing and hinting at dangerous hidden depths. I also liked his incredulous “Whattt?!” when ‘Fahey’ stated he was just looking for the right person to be before stopping.
• It was beyond bizarre to have Reese a) taken out by a random drug smuggling fisherman (whaaa?) and b) not be the person to randomly pop up to save the day at the end. And he missed that boat twice!
• Reese and Finch taking Bear to see a movie - aww. Also aww to them hanging out together.
2x18 ‘All In’
I liked this one.
• The opening scene was hilarious. I find Leon completely delightful. I love that for him people actively trying to kill him makes him feel better because then he knows help is coming. I love that at this point he expects Reese to show up to save him and near-death experiences are no big deal. And I think at this point Reese is taking it pretty casually too. I mean he brought Bear with him! I am a little worried that Leon is starting to relay too much on Reese saving him and that it’s going to backfire on him. I’ll be sad if he gets killed off.
”We need to stop meeting like this.” – Reese
“ But I’m always so happy to see you.” – Leon. Heh.
• I really love that Reese didn’t act until the gun was turned on Finch. Not when he was in danger, not even for innocent(-ish) Leon, but for Finch. He couldn’t take the chance with Finch’s life. ♥
• I loved the final Reese/Finch scene too. Reese trying to comfort Finch that he made the right decision; his sad expression at the end when he wanted to say something but didn’t.
• I haven’t actually had much of an opinion on Finch/Grace. They were cute in their past scenes. This is actually one instance where I can maybe buy ‘lying to someone to protect them’ and yet it ended up rubbing me the wrong way this episode. I think maybe it’s the fact that not only is Finch letting go of Grace and what they had (see stalking) but that he reveals that he’s completely let go of the possibility of another relationship or love. No they’re clearly true love, she’s all there will ever be for him. He’s just going to love her silently from afar for the rest of his life. … uhh, no. I don’t like that at all.
• I was expecting Finch to have bought the diner at the end so I loved that instead Finch gave Lou the watch from Logan Pierce. I never thought we’d see that again and it was a neat tie back to a past episode.
• I wonder if Finch got his 3 million back?
• "I was an international spy, Finch. I know how to play baccarat." - Reese. Hee.
• Weirdly, this episode has convinced me that Cal is actually a good cop and not part of HR. And that he is also doomed, doomed, doomed. Between her romantic woes, Szymanski's murder and her getting even more entangled with HR I feel like the last episodes of the season are not going to be happy ones for Carter.
