Elementary Thoughts
Feb. 16th, 2015 11:34 pmI was very uncertain about whether I wanted to watch season 3 of Elementary. I found season 2 really disappointing overall and the spoilers about Sherlock having a new female protege made me wary. But I decided to give the premiere a chance and I ended up really enjoying it. And I've continued to enjoy this season immensely. It has been a great improvement over season 2. I've loved what the show has been doing with Sherlock and Joan's relationship. My skepticism about Sherlock's new protege proved to be unfounded - I love Kitty. I loved her relationships with Sherlock and Joan. I think she brought a lot to the show.
3x12 'The One That Got Away'
Really excellent episode.
+ I'm really going to miss Kitty and I hope she shows up again but as a parting this was absolutely the best I could have seen for her. Especially considering that I was worried she might be killed off. She got her justice two-fold - personal revenge by terrorising Del and then burning his face with acid, and he was arrested for being a serial killer. She leaves on a positive note with both Sherlock and Joan (all them still very much a found family.) And she leaves whole or not any more damaged as a person and asserting that she is going to move on to help people in other places with the skills Sherlock and Joan taught her.
+ Sherlock/Kitty were amazing. I love the show making it explicit that Sherlock and Kitty saved each other. The flashbacks were wonderful. I love that Sherlock didn't try to tell Kitty what she should do but left it entirely up to her choice after letting her know both all her options and that she would always have his support.
“Whatever you decide, you must understand that you will always be special to me. You will always be my friend.” - Sherlock. ♥ And then Kitty telling Sherlock that she's loves him at the end of their phone call. They made me unexpected emotional.
+ I was sad that there wasn't even one scene between Kitty and Joan. It felt off. The show made it a point to develop their relationship and having Kitty leave without any scene between them made things feel unfinished. That said I did love Joan reassuring Sherlock that they would get Kitty back.
+ The Joan/Del confrontation at the gala was awesome.
+ I really liked how supportive and on team Kitty Gregson was. I loved him telling Joan 'screw it, we're a team, we'll do this together' when she tried to recuse herself from the case. I loved him giving Sherlock forewarning to have Kitty leave town.
