Agent Carter 1x05 'The Iron Ceiling'
I'm still watching and enjoying this mini-series though I haven't loved an episode like I did the pilot. This episode was okay.
+ As always I love Peggy and her utter competence. The opening office scenes with her decoding the message and then fighting to be a part of the team was great.
+ All of Peggy and Dum Dum's interactions were delightful. Their relationship felt very real and the affection between them was very obvious and lovely. I love how much he respects her and how he constantly shows it. This: (on serving with Captain America) "But not as long as she did." I love that he trusts her completely. I love how they just get each other.
"What would Cap say if I left his best girl behind?" - Dugan.
"He'd say 'do as Peggy says.'" - Peggy. ♥
+ So were the three 'new' Howling Commandos shown this episode - Sam "Happy" Sawyer, Percival "Pinky" Pinkerton and Jonathan "Junior" Juniper - supposed to be new members to the Howling Commandos or are we to think that they were part of the original group fighting with Steve against Hydra? Either way Peggy seemed to know them and they clearly trusted her in return (the way Happy says her name after Jack's original plan, for example). I love the ease with which she fit in with them.
+ I liked Dooley more than I ever have. He's still a sexist ass but he's actually good at his job and as proven in this episode he wants to do it right. He wants the truth and he wants to do his job well. I loved him smacking down Jack over Peggy's possible inclusion in the mission.
+ The deaths of Junior and Agent Li didn't have much weight. They were basically red shirt deaths. We didn't really have much a chance to get to know either of them and none of the characters mourned them much.
Castle 7x15 'Reckoning'
I loved it. Really great episode.
+ I loved that Beckett saved herself.
+ I loved that Castle didn't actually go after Tyson by himself. That it was all a game, a trap he set for Tyson, and that he was acting with Ryan and Esposito the whole time. I love that it was his plan. I love Castle being smart.
+ I'm sad to see both Tyson and Kelly Neiman go because they both brought such intensity and danger to the show and their chemistry with Castle and Beckett, respectively, was amazing. Their scenes were wonderful. I'm also disappointed that we didn't get to see more of Tyson and Kelly's relationship with each other.
+ Castle/Gates were fabulous. I loved the scene after he was fingerprinted. That was so great. Gates gentleness with him, her support, her given him what basically amounted to a peptalk and talking him past his immediate anger/fear. And then the hugs at the end were lovely.
+ "Do you know how I deal with it? I open my eyes and look at you." - Castle. Castle/Beckett are so wonderful.
+ I liked Castle reassuring Ryan that it wasn't his fault. It was a niee little moment between them. I also like that Castle follows that by saying it wasn't his fault either.
+ Forcing Castle to watch 'Beckett' be shot was definitely cruel and a very effective revenge. Castle's reaction was heartbreaking.
+ The Lanie/Kate hug was nice. I wish they'd worked Lanie into the episode more and show her reaction to Kate's kidnapping. They could have easily thrown in a short Lanie/Espo scene with them comforting each other and this would have given them both a much needed reaction scene.
+ I wish we'd gotten more of a reaction from Esposito and Ryan when it appeared that Beckett had be killed. We get a sad Ryan looking over at Castle and 'Becketts' body but that's it. Both of them stay back at the entrance looking at the gun with Espo in the background the entire time. That sticks out the most - Ryan is closer to Castle but Esposito is 100% Team Beckett. They're really close. So not getting a reaction felt really off. I can fanwank him not even looking over as him locking down his emotions and being unable to deal but I'd really rather have seen a reaction. They should have joined Castle at 'Beckett's body'. It's an issue I've had with this show before where they prioritize the Beckett/Castle relationship with each other over their relationships with others. This is much less annoying then making Beckett's reaction to Castle's death/disappearance more important than Alexis/Martha's but it's still bugs me.
