BOSS Episodes 1 - 3 Thoughts
Dec. 8th, 2010 07:41 pmEpisode 1
I love Eriko. She is so awesome. She is smart and competent. I love that when she is put down by bosses/other cops she doesn’t react in anger but rather just ignores them and then does better than they could because she is better than them.
I love that she gets the worst cops for her division and finds out that it was only meant to be a PR stunt not a serious division and her response is to go and rant to Nodate about it and then just get on with her job to the best of her abilities, all the while pushing everyone around her to do better as well.
I love Nodate. The Eriko/Nodate relationship is my favourite thus far. They’re best friends who get drunk together, he’s her boss, he created the division specifically so she could return to the MPD, he always has her back and believes in her completely. I love them. I want more scenes between them like the first one.
Episode 2
“Going home with a man?”
“That’s right. Envious, aren’t you?”
This is a really small exchange but I loved it. Eriko is forced to have a police escort for her protection and isn’t happy about it. Iwai needles her about it, not meanly I think but in a way that unconsciously is suppose to take her down a peg, a sort of judgement ‘I see that’, and in response she coolly shoots back this perfect response – in tone and in words. She takes that subtle condemnation and judgement of her and proudly accepts it and makes it good/acceptable, makes it something that actually makes her better. (Though honestly I do feel like it was more teasing than anything and the judgement is because of societal expectation not him really judging her.)
Episode 3
I like that when Eriko was getting all jealous over the guys being absorbed in Reiko she complained about Nodate not Reiko. I find myself shipping Eriko/Nodate so I loved that she singled him out in her disgruntlement. I like that the final Eriko/Reiko conversation wasn’t about guys/jealousy but rather about Mami with a side of friendly teasing. I love how this episode shot down the whole women are enemies crap. I love how competent Eriko is and how observant and smart.
“I always knew it. A woman’s worst enemy is another woman.” – Wakana
“That’s not true. This woman wasn’t your worst enemy because you’re a woman. I’m your worst enemy because you’re a cowardly criminal. Remember that.” – Eriko
