Agent Carter 1x07 & 1x08 Thoughts

Good episode.
• Aw, I’m sad they killed off Dooley. I’d grown to really like him. I do however love how he went out. He fought Ivchenko‘s mind control several times – and perhaps even managed to work around it when he locked up Peggy/Jarvis instead of killing them which you’d think Ivchenko would have ordered – and that’s impressive enough. But then he went out on his own terms saving his people in the process. That was beautifully done. I particularly adore that it was Peggy he turned to to avenge his death. ”And you. Promise me you’ll get the son of a bitch who did this.” Not Daniel or Jack but Peggy who he trusts with this last task. ♥
• I love the interrogation scenes. Peggy was awesomely badass. I love how completely unintimidated she was. I loved her calling the guys on putting their own views of who she is on her instead of seeing her for who she really is.
“Peggy, you've watched from the other side of that glass. You know what I'm capable of.” – Jack
“And you know what I'm capable of.” – Peggy
• Jarvis panicking and rushing in to save Peggy with a fake Howard confession was wonderful. Their conversation after where she works out it’s a fake was great. I loved her complimenting him on storytelling ability.
• ”I conducted my own investigation because no one listens to me. I got away with it because no one looks at me. Because unless I have your reports, your coffee, or your lunch, I'm invisible.” Peggy calls the guys out several times in the episode but this was my favourite. She was 100% correct and I love that you see it hit both Daniel and Jack. I love her finally being able to hit the male agents with some truths and let out some of that anger that has been simmering the whole series. It was very satisfying every time.
• I loved the scene where Peggy reveals Steve’s blood. "I suppose I just wanted a second chance at keeping him safe." Emotionally it worked so well. Poor Peggy.
• I really enjoyed both Daniel and Jack. I found it really interesting that Daniel was the ‘bad cop’ and Jack the ‘good cop’ during the interrogation but it really worked and they both did a really good job in their roles. Although ‘roles’ might be stretching it a bit – I think Daniel was honestly feeling betrayed and used and was lashing out at her over it, and that Jack did want to make it easy on her and was uncertain about the truth based on what happened in Russia. Their relationships definitely affected how they approached her. I loved them confessing to each other that they both believed Peggy. I loved that Jack warned Daniel about shooting to kill based on what happened in Russia.
• I loved Dottie’s descent down the staircase. Very cool.
1x08 'Valediction'
Really enjoyed it. It was a good end both for the season and for there series as a whole if it doesn't get renewed. I really hope it is because I am really enjoying it and I want to see so much more.
• I LOVE that the climax was Peggy having to talk Howard down over the radio. ♥ That was so perfect I can’t even say. The parallels between this scene and Peggy’s last with Steve, and this being used as a way for Peggy to finally let go of Steve was a serious gut punch but so emotionally satisfying. This time Peggy succeeds and she’s able to save Howard and it allows her to finally move on. Considering that Howard never does stop searching for Steve I feel like he doesn’t manage it.
Their whole conversation was pretty heartbreaking and amazing. I loved Howard’s “He was the one thing I've done that brought good into this world.” Then there was a crying Peggy pleading: “Howard I know you loved him. I loved him too. But this won’t bring him back. Howard, you are the one person who believes in me. I can’t lose you. Steve is gone. We have to move on, all of us. As impossible as that may sound, we have to let him go.” omg. That was so beautiful. Then there was the ‘in’ that Ivchenko uses to get to Howard:
• ”Go back in your mind to a time and place that holds your greatest shame. What would you change if you could?” … and Howard imagines Steve’s plane being found and Peggy sending him to bring Steve home!! Wow. My god, I am having so many Howard/Steve/Peggy feelings right now. I loved how clear it was just how important the three of them meant to each other – their love for Steve and for each other. Peggy’s love for Steve is clearly romantic, Peggy/Howard are portrayed pretty platonically (though I still like the idea of pining Howard and I could see them growing from platonic to romantic) but I feel like Howard’s love for Steve is left open to interpretation and I love that so much. They don’t once try to cloak Howard’s love for Steve as say “loved him like a brother” or “he was family”, and they directly compare his feelings for Steve with Peggy’s. So I think you could very easily say that Howard being in love love with Steve is at least heavily implied subtext. The devotion between the three of them is certainly canon. It made me really happy.
• ”But should you again find yourself in need of my services I would be honored to assist you at a moment’s notice, Miss Peggy.” Loved this moment. Also it really gave me a flashback to Labyrinth and the end scene with Sarah’s Labyrinth friends telling her that they would be there for her if she needed them. All the Peggy/Jarvis scenes were great. I really adore them.
• The Peggy/Dottie fight was pretty great. I was impressed with how well Peggy did against the heavily trained Dottie. She might have done a little too well. I'm really glad Dottie survived.
• I loved Jarvis giving Peggy the vial of Steve’s blood. Because he thought she was the one who should have it.
• “I know my value. Anyone else's opinion doesn't really matter.” – Peggy. I really loved this. Peggy has always known her own worth but she started the series desperately wanting the acknowledgement and respect of her co-workers and I love that show ends with her getting it. The applause from the other SSR agents when she walked in was great. I also love that she is satisfied with just that and doesn’t need any further accolades.
• I actually rather liked Jack taking the credit at the end. At first I wanted to smack him upside the head but in the end I like that while he has grown as a person, and he does very much respect Peggy, he is still a dick and a coward and that he knows how to play the game and is still doing it.
• That tag - the start of the Winter Soldier, ouch. Between this and her locking away Whitehall Peggy could have saved a lot of people and the future a lot of grief if she was a lot more ruthless and killed her most dangerous enemies.
• I liked Peggy and Angie moving into one of Howard’s apartments together a lot.
• Howard coaching Jack through the press conference and Jack’s long-suffering expression and reluctance and yet saying exactly what Howard told him to amused me a lot.
• The running joke about Howard not remembering Dottie’s name despite their weekend together actually ended up amusing me. I liked her anger over it and him finally remembering her cover name at the end and being all impressed with himself. I loved Peggy and Jarvis's shared eyeroll over it.
• I loved Daniel wearing ear plugs and playing Ivchenko in order to get close enough to knock him out.
• I was definitely expecting there to be more of an end game here than just one Russian scientist’s revenge on Howard Stark. So is he Leviathan? How did he get all these resources and a black widow to help him? Is the USSR backing his revenge as a covert blow against the US? Or is Leviathan someone/something else he worked for and his Howard/plane plan was him going against his boss's plan? Because Leviatian was made out to be this big ominous and scary thing so if it was just him the whole time that's kind of a letdown.
Good episode.
