Darkness on the Edge of Town

It was okay.

• Emma/Regina were completely delightful. I loved all their interactions and found them to be the best part of the episode. Their ease with each other now is wonderful to watch.

"I'm fine with her grilled cheese but I know it gets to you." - Emma
"You eat like a child." - Regina

♥ This scene was adorable. I love that Emma knows what Regina doesn't like and goes out of her way to get her something she does. The teasing. Then the sympathy over the Robin picture. And then them working together as a team to fight and defeat the Chernabob. All great.

• I loved Snow threatening Ursula and Cruela. It was actually rather intimidating/scary and I think they thought so too. I'm guessing that their back story is going to be the reason for why the two villains ended up in 'our' world? I'm just glad Snow and Charming are getting a storyline again and I'm very curious about why they especially don't want Emma to know.

• The opening catch up sequence was nice. I especially loved Hook meeting up with Emma in the morning with coffee and her walking him the library where he and Belle have been working together. And Regina burning up Snow's bird painting with a grin as she settles back in her office.

• Rumplestiltskin crashing on Ursula's couch for six weeks, eating her food and making up fake internet identities to secretly stalk his ex (and plot villain stuff), amuses me. I wish we'd seen a little more of that odd couple sitcom.

"i suppose we should go out and see what's killing property values this time." - Regina. LOL.

• I'm enjoying Cruela and Ursula thus far even if I find them trusting Rumplestiltskin and working with him kind of head-scratching. Ursula is interesting because she doesn't seem 'evil' thus far - she keeps her word to Maleficent and saves her, she lets Rumple crash for six weeks on her couch (even after the Enchanted Forest betrayal and with him not contributing anything.) It's a little weird that we haven't seen her use any magic yet. Cruela got a couple good lines and seems like she could be snarky fun. I liked the addition of her animal control magic which helps her fit in with the whole fairy world a little better.

"Our collective frustrations they're because of his will not our missteps." - Rumplestiltskin
"I guess that's better than blaming bad judgement and gin." - Cruela.

LOL. I like that little bit of self-awareness on Cruela's part. Rumplestiltskin on the other hand - is he backsliding? It feels like he is. Regina keeps falling back into this occasionally - blaming others for her actions, it's not her fault - and it's really irritating but weirdly less so with Rumple doing it. Maybe because he hasn't really tried for redemption for it's own sake rather than to keep/protect those he loves while Regina ostensible is?

• So Emma has the most potential darkness in her heart... okay. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out because Emma has had many reasons/chances to go dark in the past and never has. I hope this isn't a situation where she's possessed/turned dark magically but I don't know that I'd buy it happening organically.

• I guess Emma has really become inured to the whole 'fairy tale characters' thing if Cruela De Vil and Ursula calling them up doesn't even make her blink.

• I don't know if it's because I haven't watched the show in awhile but a lot of little things bugged me.

- So we're just going to gloss over Regina becoming mayor again? Sure, Emma and her parents are supportive of her redemption attempts but I don't know that I believe that the rest of the town would. And is Snow really fine with just stepping back and letting Regina 'rule' again? This reset doesn't really work for me. Regina wanting the position back makes sense but Snow giving it up and the town letting it happen not so much.

- Why the heck didn't the queens of darkness attack Rumplestiltskin before he left the cavern? They didn't even try to stop him.

- The fact that all three of them apparently honestly trusted him and weren't ready for a betrayal was beyond dumb. They all villains. Evil villains! Why are they so trusting? Especially Rumplestiltskin of all people.

- So the spell releases the fairies from the Hat and the Chernabob but no one else sucked into the hat?

- My biggest issue: Regina not poofing to the town line. The show tries to address the lack of poofing but did it in such a terrible way that it just drew attention to how little it made sense. It's clear they wanted to keep who the Chernabob was interested in from our heroes but they did it in such a way to make them look stupid especially considering Regina ends up poofing at the end anyway (pointlessly). They could have made it work if Regina had poofed them both to the town line and attacked it together there.

- I'm not sure why Emma didn't cross the town line. She still can right?

- Why did they let Cruela and Ursula keep the scroll? Absolutely no sense.

- Rumplestiltskin giving up waiting and desolately walking away from the town line made no sense to me. Maybe if it had been dawn but it was still the middle of the night.

- Why the hell was Rumple walking down main street if he wants to keep his presence a secret?
