Agents of Shield 2x19 Thoughts

I really enjoyed it.
• Skye was amazing. I loved her refusing to abandon Lincoln. I liked her talk with Jiaying. Her continued concern for what Cal could do and insistence that they do bear responsibility for him was great. Her using her powers in battle was fabulous.
Then there was her fight with the Hydra agents outside the operating theatre. That was fucking awesome! Did she take lessons in fighting in Afterlife too? Because this was a whole new level of badass. She used her surroundings perfectly in the fight. It was a thing of beauty and I think one of the best action sequences done on the show. She also did it all without powers for some reason but I don't care. I loved it. May would be so proud.
+ "I thought her gift was spinning really fast to collect gold rings." LOL.
• I love that Jemma's first question to Skye was whether she was making friends and then asked about her powers.
• Jemma attempting and almost succeeding in murdering Ward, wow. She was a lot more pissed off at Ward than I thought. And a lot more ruthless. That seems to be Jemma's character arc this season. I loved her staring down Ward afterwards fully expecting him to shoot her but refusing to flinch or beg.
I loved the scene between Jemma and Fitz when they were bitching about Ward together and they're angrily venting about ways they'd like to kill him when Fitz realises that Jemma is completely serious. For Fitz it's just venting - he may try to attack Ward, he may hate him and talk about how he should die, and he probably wouldn't be upset if Ward did die but he's not a killer and if given a gun he very likely wouldn't shoot Ward. Jemma meanwhile wouldn't blink before pulling the trigger. Considering her casualness when asked about Bakshi she probably wouldn't even be upset. She didn't seem affected at all. When did Jemma get this scary? I'm a little concerned for her.
But a part of me loves that she made the attempt simply because after she threatened him I read a lot of scoffing online about it and what a pointless threat it was and that of course she could never do it. Hah, she did. And she almost succeeded.
• Why the hell is Coulson keeping May in the dark? Why would he assume that "working for Fury" would cause her to work against him? It makes no sense to me.
• I enjoyed Mike and Lincoln's scene. "Well, at least your sarcasm still works." amused me. I was kind of looking forward to them working together to break themselves out.
• I enjoyed Coulson's gloating to Gonzalez that Fury was alive and Coulson was working with Maria Hill. Largely because I don't really like Gonzalez. I did find interesting that Bobbi didn't seem to have much of a reaction to Fury being alive. Did she know?
Also Coulson and Maria's shared 'wtflol' over democratic SHIELD was funny.
• I liked the little Bobbi/Kara scene and Bobbi reaching out to Kara and offering her sympathy and help.
• Ward. I'm still really enjoying what the show is doing with him but where do I even start with this episode? There was so much happening. By point:
+ Him taunting May with their past relationship, twice. The first one - "May's actually pretty friendly. Once you get to know her." had me mentally saying 'ass' but at the same time it amused me a bit. The second one, however - "We all have our own ways of coping, don't we? For example I was yours." bugged me a lot more. I don't know why. Maybe because it was in front of the rest of the team as he was trying to excuse his choices? Because it was more explicit? Either way Ward turning to sexual/sexist remarks is certainly confirmed as a character trait. Not his most attractive one.
+ Ward/Kara continue to be remarkably healthy and true. He is genuinely really wonderful both to and with her and is sincerely doing his best to help her. I didn't really see this coming. He's supportive, caring, loving. Him trying to teach her to fly was even kind of adorable. And there was this:
"Being a SHIELD agent was taken from you. This is your chance to get that part of yourself back. I'll keep saying it until you believe me. All you have to do is stay strong." <--- pretty great.
Except then we get the end where it's revealed that he brought her back to SHIELD under false pretenses and was planning on leaving her there all along. Sure his motives were pure - a) he felt like he couldn't help her anymore but she still needed help, and b) "There's not enough good left inside me. She deserves better." To which I say: FU Ward! It's great that he cares so much but she isn't a freaking a child and this is her decision to make not his. By doing this he's just taking one more thing from her. Her being able to make choices about her own life is especially huge considering her past and he should know that!
Of course this is Ward so possibly things are not as they seem at first glance. Could this be part of a greater plan? Is Kara at SHIELD as a mole perhaps, and if so why?
+ "You really have changed Simmons. I'm disappointed in you." LOL. No seriously, I actually laughed out loud at that. It's hilarious to hear Ward says that to Jemma. And he said it like a disapproving older brother. Just... *hands*.
+ I 100% believe that Ward deeply regrets destroying the little family-group they'd created.
+ Ward once again trying to side-step responsibility and offering excuses for his actions. I think the smoking gun of that whole scene was him saying he "had to put down" those SHIELD agents. Wow. He didn't "put down" the agents, he murdered them. A lot of them. And he didn't 'have' to do anything. They "all made mistakes"??? Okay.
I loved how much everyone was just not having it. The exchange between the four of them at the end - "I'm still happy I shot you." / "Yeah, me too." / "Should have aimed at his face." / "Yeah." was hilarious.
• I agreed with Ward - it was great to see the original team back together.
• "And Ward, no more talking.... to people." - Coulson. LOL. Their final phone call does have me wondering that if Ward is on the road to actual redemption will it be Coulson who forgives first?
