The Blacklist 2x20 & 2x21 Thoughts

• I really liked Liz this episode. I love everything she did with regards to Red. In their first scene she was calm and professional. Her getting pissed off and losing it in his apartment really worked for me. I like that she lost her temper and threatened him. I loved that in their conversation that followed she was back to being calm but also let herself be emotionally open with him.
• I really love Red/Liz and their interactions in this episode were wonderful. I loved that because Liz is now a target of the Cabal Red has declared his detente with them over. As always she is the most important thing to him.
• Red's determination to not tell Liz what happened the night of the fire and the truth about her past is so extreme that I really hope the show has a good explanation for it. We're always know that Red is very serious about keeping the truth from her - in the first season he killed her adopted father and his close long-time friend to keep it from her after all. But it's a completely different level of 'wtf' when she is asking and he tells her over and over to her face that he will not tell her the truth even while knowing she is investigating. The truth is going to come out. That's inevitable. Things have gone too far now, Liz is on the trail and it's only a matter of time. And yet Red is still trying to railroad her investigation, still doing his best to keep the secret. Why?
I suppose at this point he is so invested in keeping the truth from her, in protecting her from it, and gone to such extremes [Sam's murder, blocking her memories of the fire] to accomplish that that he can't back down at this point. It has to be something really devastating. Just devastating to Liz or to Red as well? What could be that bad... did Liz accidentally kill her father? I can't imagine that Red being the one to kill him would be bad enough to warrant all of this.
• I loved Dembe in charge of Red's therapy. Red complaining was amusing.
• I loved Red calling in Samar and their ruse for Jasper. She was played Jasper perfectly. It was great. I also liked the reminder that oh, yeah, Samar is one of Red's people. I hope that comes into play some more (if not this season then in the next one.)
• Red delivering Jasper's tongue to the Director, just like he threatened to, was awesome. Great reveal. At the same time I found myself going "wait, he didn't..." because sometimes it can be easy to forget just how ruthless and dark Red can be. This leaves me with a pressing question though: who cut out Jasper's tongue - Dembe or Samar? Or was Mr. Kaplan called in for clean up and she handled it?
2x21 'Karakurt'
• I loved the first shot of Red this episode - him snoring through a nap while in the next room a guy is screaming while being tortured. Heh.
• I'm glad that Cooper went to Red and confessed everything. It was exactly what I thought he should do and I'm glad it wasn't drawn out.
• Tom/Liz were actually really sweet. I loved his phone call to her. Introducing himself as Jacob, making fun of his pancakes and then asking her out on a date - it was nice. Their first scene in the diner too. I loved that he apologised. I liked him ordering her the breakfast she would have ordered. I really loved the way he looked at her and smiled at her.
He is very committed to the idea of Liz running away with him and starting over but he has to know that's not going to happen. Not even because of their past and his betrayal because I do think she is well on her way to forgiving that. I think her love for him is winning out over everything that happened. But rather because her past has been a mystery for so long and now that she is on the path to getting answers there is no way she can turn her back on it.
• So how long have the Cabal and the Director been planning on setting Liz up? How long have they know that she's the daughter of Katarina Rostova?
