Once Upon a Time 4x20 & 4x21 Thoughts

• Emma/Regina were excellent. I loved how gentle and supportive Regina was throughout. I loved that it was Regina who came up with the idea of a road trip and her telling Emma "Maybe I need you." I loved Regina's expression when Emma pulled the gun on Lily and her talking Emma down. I really love that Regina put saving Robin on hold in order to go on a road trip with Emma to find Lily.
• "When you're around things are brighter." - Lily. Yup, still shipping Emma/Lily. I love that because of the spell Emma and Lily are basically two halves of a whole and will always be connected. And that apparently Emma + Lily = powerful magic. I so want an AU take where Emma responded to Lily plea for help by taking her hand and leaving with her, and them figuring out their magic together and discovering their past. As it is I loved their confrontation - and really felt for Lily: "we both know my life isn't worth saving. ouch, poor Lily - and the scene that followed where Emma extends her hand to Lily and asks her to come with them.
• Still not buying this whole Emma going dark plot. I really don't understand why Emma is losing it like this.
• The show has really backgrounded Emma/Hook - for example, Regina being the one who went after Emma at the beginning instead of Hook (though I loved that, just an interesting choice) - but their short scene before Emma left was nice.
• "I knew Gold couldn't keep the dragon on her leash for long." - Regina. I love Regina's wide smile. I love how honestly pleased she was.
• I felt bad for Snow when Emma just shut her down. I miss Snow and Emma.
• "Already in the process of doing that, mate." - Will, re: stealing Belle heart. Heh. But, wow he has no self-preservation skills at all, does he?
• I still love young Lily's actress, not too sure yet about the older one. The casting seems a little off.
• Zelena being pregnant. Ugh. Just - ugh, to everything about this stupid storyline. It is so gross.
4x21 'Mother'
Meh. This show is making even less sense than usual. Plus this episode felt very disjointed.
• "My happy ending is finally feeling at home in the world." - Regina. Yes, finally! I loved Regina finally realising that happiness is within her grasp and it's about her choices. That it's always been about her choice. There is no perfect happily ever after, just what she creates and accepts. Now hopefully this means an end to Regina trying to blame others for her unhappiness.
• I liked the Lily/Regina scene. Regina figuring out she could use Lily's blood (duh), her giving Lily advice and her final "Welcome to Storybrooke" after cutting Lily was a lovely flash back to season one Regina.
• I liked the Lily/Maleficent scenes okay. Their final one was the best. I also really loved that little moment where Maleficent worried about Lily hurting herself while flying. Kristin Bauer van Straten did a good job this ep.
• I kind of liked Maleficent going to the Charmings for help but it honestly makes no sense whatsoever for Maleficent to do that. So weird. Still the Charmings giving her advice based on their experiences with Emma was nice.
• I'm glad that Emma has decided to forgive her parents (though I was also glad that she was mad at them for so long.) It was time. I liked what she said to them and I liked the Snow/Emma hug. I missed them too. This should have been a great scene but I hated how the scene was directed/staged. Emma directed her entire speech to Snow. She didn't even look at her dad once during the entire scene not even during the hug. She looked at Hook but not her father? Charming didn't even reach out to Emma - touch her shoulder, or put his arms around both of them. There was no hug between father/daughter. He didn't say anything. It was entirely about the Emma/Snow relationship and he was just a bystander. WTF?
• Wait, so the Dark One can die? Be too evil too long and you die and become a shell for 'the dark one' to use? What? But I guess survival is definitely a reasonable reason for Rumple to be so gung ho to get the authors power.
• Regina making herself infertile in a moment of spite against her mother - wow. I did not see that coming. Oh, Regina. I did love Regina pointing out to Zelena that she does have her own child in Henry.
• I wish there had been an Emma/Lily scene. If anyone can empathise with Lily and what she was going with it's Emma. Emma was in the same boat not that long ago. It felt really off that they didn't have one scene this episode. I feel like their relationship should have been a thread throughout the episode and it might have tied things together a bit better.
• That scene with dragon Lily was full of stuff that had me going whaa??? Snow runs after Maleficent, unarmed!, and then... right past her? I thought the point was to pull Maleficent away so what was she doing? When Snow is knocked unconscious Maleficent starts to run to her side along with Charming - why exactly? She doesn't, or shouldn't, care about Snow! All her focus should be on Lily. Lily has Snow and Charming right there and flies away instead of trying to kill them? That makes no sense.
