Person of Interest 3x10 Review

I really liked it.
• I loved how this episode dealt with the aftermath of Carter's death. I was expecting it to centre around Reese hunting down Simmons for revenge with a lot of focus on his pain/grief but instead it gave attention to everyone's reactions with a focus on Finch more than anyone. I thought us following everyone else as they chased down Reese worked really well. I also liked the use of flashbacks - with each of our surviving characters having a one on one discussion with a nameless person, illuminating an important aspect of the character and how it plays into what happened with Carter.
• Once again it's Fusco's big emotional scene that was my favourite of the episode. I loved that he got his own confrontation with Simmons (even if I found him beating Simmons in a fair fight unbelievable) and that he was the one to ultimately bring him in.
• "She saved me from myself. Because she believed in me." Oh, Fusco. It was a really great scene but this did feel a little like the Reese/Carter motivation retcon in the last episode since we watched Fusco change and Carter was only a part of it. That said by choosing to honour her memory and who she was as a cop by not killing Simmons she does end up saving him from himself.
• "It's not our purpose. We save lives. You save lives." - Finch. I really loved this. But I also like that Reese took the shot anyway.
• I loved Finch's worry over Reese and his fear for him. I loved the way he asked Shaw how badly injured Reese was and his expression in learning it was bad. I loved him sitting by Reese's bedside.
• I liked that Reese was actually seriously hurt from his gunshot wounds contrary to how it seemed at the end of the last episode.
• I loved that Shaw and Reese had basically the exact same reaction to Carter's death - subsume their grief into their rage and start making other people feel the pain as they track down Simmons. Also I loved Fusco calling them Finch's stray dogs.
• "Okay, that was kind of hot." - Shaw. It was indeed. I'm so happy Root's back (permanently?) and her interactions with Finch and Shaw were really great.
• I liked Elias showing up at the end to watch his second kill Simmons. I had wondered what he was doing during all this and this scene confirmed a lot of what I thought. That he genuinely liked Carter a lot, beyond the debt he owed her and even knowing that she didn't like him, and that he also respected her enough to step back and let her handle things how she wanted. I liked that he was the one who killed Simmons. I never considered him but of everyone he's actually my favourite choice.
