Person of Interest 4x01 Thoughts

• I love that the world is going full-tilt into an AI dystopia, with Samaritan assassinating people all over the place with no oversight and a full out AI war beginning, and yet the world hadn't even noticed. Yet. I kind of can't wait until they do. I love how this switches things up for the team and has forced them into a different role. I wonder if the Number's now will all have a duel purpose - saving a random person and helping in the fight against Samaritan. They'd almost have to.
• I loved Harold's "He's never let me down." and then his concern for Reese and telling him "John! Remember to be careful."
• Finch had me going 'wth' a fair amount this ep. I had a hard time understanding his reaction here. I do love that in the end Finch decided to get involved again in order to help Reese and Shaw. I loved it because first, awww, but second because it works with what we know about Finch and his past. It ties nicely back in with Finch only deciding to help Irrelevant Numbers originally because of love for Nathan and what happened to him.
• "I wouldn't know Ms. Groves. She only talks to you." - Harold. Wow, that was so... petulant. Really Harold? He goes between being all "it's only a machine/i totally don't care" and random moments of this sort of resentfulness that he doesn't have as close a relationship with the Machine.
• "Every life matters. You taught me that. ... All of this matters. We matter. - Root. Hmm. How much does Root really believe what she's saying here? It seems a bit of a quick turn around and a part of me thinks that she's mostly saying it just to get Harold back in gear. Still we have seen a lot of character growth from her in this regard, and I love that it is partially because of Finch, which is what makes this scene work really well, so maybe she did mean it? Either way I loved this Root/Finch scene and Root basically going back and forth between cheerleading and tough-talking Finch into getting back into the game.
• Reese as Fusco's new partner and taking over Carter's desk - aww. I love this and I think Carter would have approved as well. I loved their silent exchange of looks over her desk. This is exactly how to remember a dead character.
• "Just promise me John's a barista." - Shaw. Hee. I loved how in sync they were over wanting to get back to the numbers. I loved Shaw knocking Reese out to protect him and then having his back during the climax. Root calls them Finch's "mayhem twins" and that's just how I like them best.
• I love the Machine choosing 'Whistler' for Finch's cover identity. It's sweet that she's keeping to his bird motif.
• The Machine sending Reese and Shaw to meet at a 'positivity' meeting was amusing. I loved their reactions. She definitely has a sense of humour.
• I loved the flirting shop scene between Root/Shaw.
• It was great to see Elias again and I loved John hiring him (and his reaction). Dare I hope for Elias to become a Team Machine ally? I would love that so much.
