Hannibal 3x07 Thoughts

I loved it.
• I loved the break-up so much. From start to finish it was perfect.
Hannibal was so sad when Will rejected him. There were tears in his eyes! He looked like he wanted to cry. He was visually distraught! You could literally see his heart break. [I felt bad for him.] Also apparently killing and eating Will is no longer an option since Hannibal didn't appear to even consider it for a second.
So Hannibal sadly leaves... and then turns himself in. I did not see it coming. I can't believe he did that. And that he did it entirely to keep a hold of Will asdgfkklm! Are you freaking kidding me?! God this show. (I love it so much.) That was the perfect way for Hannibal to finally be captured. On his own terms as always, using it to manipulate the people around him, and somehow still in control.
"I want you to know exactly where I am, and where you can always find me." His look at Will! He just straight out refuses to accept Will breaking up with him! Uugh you controlling manipulative asshole. And yet I love it so much. Hannibal's refusing to give up on Will! He's giving up everything for Will! He's going to wait for him! Poor Will.
Holy crap is Hannibal playing a long game here. He's willing to give up his freedom for an unspecified length of time just for the chance that Will will come around? Will really did change him.
• The fact that Hannibal waited outside Will's house, in the winter cold for hours, in order to turn himself over to Jack in front of Will was the best.
• "I’m not going to miss you. I’m not going to find you. I’m not going to look for you. I don’t want to think about you anymore. I don’t want to know where you are or what you do. I don't want to think about you anymore." - Will. I think Will both means everything he says here and is lying to himself and Hannibal here. I'm not even sure that he knows what the truth is. He's just trying to change the game. He tells Hannibal that there can be 'no decisive victory' between them - he tried to kill Hannibal, Hannibal tried to kill him and both of them failed. Earlier Will had told Alana that "she had to evolve" and this is him doing that. All of the above is what Will wants. Or what he wants to want. He wants it so much. He wants to be free from it all. I think this is probably the healthiest path possible for him, trying to separate himself from Hannibal, trying to let go and move past Hannibal but at this point I think it's far too late. [Also Hannibal is not ready to let go. Sorry Will!]
• The dinner party was amazing. Hannibal was having so much fun and that was even before Will bit someone's face off. Eeee, god I loved that moment. Everything about Will and Hannibal's reactions were perfect. Will was so defiant and "fuck everything" about it and then his look at Hannibal. Hannibal meanwhile is so delighted and proud. His look at Will was so infatuated and his look at Mason all "see? see? ♥". He is so in love with Will it's amazing.
• I love how happy Hannibal was during basically his entire stay at Muskrat Farms. It was like a pleasant little vacation. He was phased by none of it. He found the threats amusing or interesting, was actually approving of their descriptions of how they'd eat him, was completely unbowed by the naked bondage and branding. Early in the episode Alana tells Mason that "Hannibal is always playing. and he really, really is. I love it. And then Will breaks up with him and he is devastated. I love the juxtaposition of the two and Hannibal's vastly different reactions.
• I love how fucking done with everything Will looks for most of the episode.
• Hannibal carrying an unconscious Will from Muskrat farms in a princess carry delights me. Thank you show. Also I love that he took Will back to Wolf Trap and tucked him into bed and then waited for him to wake up.
• I loved the visual of Hannibal freeing himself from his restraints.
• I loved the visual of Hannibal, covered in blood and surrounded in darkness, looking almost inhuman heading to the rescue of Will. The monster coming for what's his. I'm having some feelings right now. So many feelings.
• I loved the Margot/Hannibal/Alana scene. Loved all of it. Hannibal playing therapist once again. Margot essentially visiting for a pep talk in killing Mason. Margot refusing to trust Hannibal to kill Mason and him being all congenial and 'no, no, you should do it as I've always said' and then offering to take the blame. Love. First Bedelia, now Margot and Alana. Then there was this:
Alana: I was trying to save Will from you. But now you are the only one who can save him. Promise me you'll save him? Please
Hannibal: I promise. And I always keep my promises Alana.
... *hands* Alana was trying to save Will from Hannibal and now she's asking Hannibal to save him! Hannibal promising to do so (she didn't need to force that promise really) and then essentially threatening Alana because he promised to kill her in Mizumono. And then she gets down and close with him! And then frees him after pulling out some hair.
• I wish we had seen Hannibal's rescue of Will and whatever happened between Margot, Alana and him. There's a chunk of time there that I really want to see. Also I can't help but be interested in exactly how the whole sperm collecting situation played out. Especially considering Hannibal's promise threat. How nerve wracking that experience must have been.
• I loved Alana. Her scene with Will and the fact that all of this started not only to capture (not kill) Hannibal but also to save Will. Her scene with Hannibal, her relationship with and care of Margot, her scenes with Mason and eventually helping to kill him. She was amazing.
• I loved Alana/Margot. I love them as a team, silently working from the background for their happy ending. I love how completely loyal and supportive they are towards each other and how well they worked together. I really wish we could have seen the start of them because I loved everything about them here.
• "They are identically different, Hannibal and Will." - Jack. Yes, this is them exactly.
• "You delight. I tolerate. I don't have you appetite." - Will. Okay, I buy that Will doesn't have Hannibal's 'appetite' but not as much on the 'tolerate' part. I mean everything that happened with firefly guy was about Will. He wasn't playing a role then. Even if he does just tolerate, um, tolerating a cannibalistic serial killer is not good.
• I liked everything we saw of Chiyoh and even though I'm still not 100% sure what is going on with her I'm actually fine with that. I really hope that she shows up in the second half. Her saving Jack was great and I loved how Jack's rather blasé reaction. Her saving Hannibal at Muskrat with her awesome shooting skills was wonderful and I really liked her scene with Hannibal.
• Mason is the worst and not in the intensely enjoyable and delightful way that Hannibal is the worst but in a disturbing, ewww, kill-it-with-fire way. The surrogate pig was horrifying. It was really satisfying watching Margot and Alana murder him together. Even if the murder itself was really gross. I especially love that it was the two of them who got to kill him, that they did it together and that they got to rub it in his face beforehand that they won.
• I actually loved Mason's plan for Hannibal and Will - taking Will's face to replace his destroyed one, and then eating Hannibal while wearing it.
• This episode was full of murder-soulmates. Hannibal/Will, Margot/Alana and even Mason/Cordell (they seemed like a good match!). That just leaves Jack and I guess Chiyoh free this episode - a sign that they're meant to be? Hmm. Thinking on it they could actually be a good pair. Though less with the 'murder'. Probably.
I loved it.
