The Troll Farmer

• Liz and Red were as great as always.

• I'm not sure how I feel about all this talk about Liz's mother. I'm excited to meet her (I'm assuming this is all foreshadowing) but I have issues with the execution. For instance, I'm pretty sure that Red told Liz that her mother died in the pilot which goes against his whole "I never lie to you" stance. I also just found his little speech about how amazing Katarina was ["cleverest, most resourceful person I ever knew"] and that Liz as her daughter carries that with her kind of weird, tbh. As a pep talk to motivate Liz it felt more like the writers than something Red would say. Plus if he really didn't want Liz to go to the Russian consulate he probably shouldn't have been talking so much about her Russian spy mother while telling her she could figure out what to do.

• I loved Liz's decision at the the end to go to the Russian consulate, claim the identity of spy Masha Rostova and ask for diplomatic immunity. I did not see that coming and while it'll probably backfire on her I thought it was a pretty clever move on her part. I also loved how it was shot - her on one side of the gates staring at Ressler on the other side as she claimed the lies said about her as truth.

• I like Liz's new look. Blonde is a good look for her. I loved Red's reaction to it too.

• I loved Aram's complete belief in and loyalty to Liz. He's so great. I'd love it if he ended up becoming Liz and Red's mole on the task force.

• Samar getting captured by the gang member and held hostage was annoying but I'm enjoying the Samar/Ressler tension.

• Dembe has a daughter and grand-daughter! That was unexpected. And they appear to be really close so Dembe has probably spent a lot of time with her. I find that interesting because that's putting down a lot more roots than I was expecting. Now is Red her beloved 'uncle/grandfather' (Dembe is very much like a son to him) or has he kept his distance to keep her (and himself) safe? I feel like the latter is more likely but I really want it to be the former.

• I was a little annoyed when Red gave up Chang and his team because Red is generally pretty loyal to his people (which is why they're loyal to him, though of course for Red no one is worth more than Liz). I mean they worked hard to help him and even with Chang ending their relationship there was no indication that he would turn against Red. Though I guess since he and his team are on Red's blacklist Red has been planning all along to turn him over and thus probably not someone Red considers one of his.
