• The two biggest differences between the Olivia’s are: a) Red Olivia being lighter and more open then Blue Olivia is, and b) that Red Olivia is a follower – she listens, she observes but she doesn’t ask questions much, she doesn’t interject her opinions, she doesn’t lead or take control. This episode felt to me as if it was all about the ways that Red Olivia is different from Blue Olivia, perhaps because it’s been a month since I’ve watched an episode with her, and I kept categorising all the things that were off.

How relaxed she is and how much she smiled in felt off. Her laugh when Peter brought her breakfast in bed sounded wrong as did her smiles when she brought Walter the snack. Even Olivia’s pretend panicked/upset reaction to Peter after she killed the shape-shifter didn’t feel like how Blue Olivia would react. There was a moment where Walter enters a room at the victim’s house and Olivia gets up to go to him and her reaction is just wrong. The way she walks up to him, her smile/smirk... it was all Red Olivia.

My biggest problem with all the Blue Universe episodes is that despite Red Olivia doing a very impressive job she is just so different from Blue Olivia and I can see it so clearly and it really bugs me that no one else apparently can.

• This episode also had Olivia making a couple slight missteps – first when she informed Nina that she hadn’t even tried to talk to Walter (leading to Nina being a bit suspicious), second when Peter pointed out Ed Markem’s name and she didn’t recognise it (which she covered, badly, but Peter didn’t really notice) and third when Peter asked her for the numbers from the first broadcast (which eidetic Olivia should know but which took her a little hesitation to come up with). At this point it almost feels like Peter is being dense on purpose and I’m hoping he does know the truth (and is trying to bring Red Olivia over to their side or something). At the least I’m hopeful that Nina’s interest is now captured she seemed suspicious about Olivia not trying to talk to Walter and while she seemed more bemused by Olivia’s explanation then suspicious I hope she was just covering it in front of Olivia.

• About half way through the episode I suddenly found myself sure that they were going to have Red Olivia lose her memory. It just made sense to me – the mistakes she’d been making, the memory losing machine, the Olivia/Peter relationship and especially the way that Blue Olivia was made over in Red Olivia’s image and her memories hidden. It works for me that what happened to Blue Olivia would also happen to Red Olivia.

• It appears that Red Olivia is beginning to waver in her belief that her mission is right and true. During her talk with Peter it really sounded like she was trying to get Peter to confirm to her that she was doing the right thing.

“Walter, one of the things I most admired about you was your optimism. Don’t become a fatalist now.” – Nina. That made me blink a lot. I really loved this Nina/Walter scene. I hadn’t realized they went so far back that they went to college together. So they had fun did they? I want to know more! We haven’t really gotten any depth into their relationship before Walter was committed except that she was a fairly close friend and really cared for child Peter. I was amused by the switch on the usual – instead of them complaining about the younger generation being lazy/layabouts they’re complaining that the current generation is too serious and doesn’t know how to have fun. Oh, also I am really glad that Walter inheriting Massive Dynamic hasn’t caused Nina to be jealous.

• Astrid/Walter were wonderful as well. It’s kind of unusual but they really have created this amazing partnership over the last two and a half seasons. They are one of the best parts of this show. Things I love include: Walter making Astrid a sandwich and snack plate to help her, the fact that Astrid took a bite out of it for him (though I really don’t know that I would ever eat anything Walter had made), and Astrid’s “Humour me” which was an inverse of their usual dynamic and it made me happy. I love that Astrid got to solve the case and crack the code.

• Walter comforting the new mother victim and actually succeeding in it for once was a really nice scene.

“Nothing. Just for being you.” That was an ‘ouch’ moment for me. That should have been Blue Olivia’s moment.

• I’m guessing that the ‘first humans’ were The Observers?
